I have bought a few domains recently and they were initially registered at domaindiscover.com by the old owner.

I wanted to transfer them to Dotster.com and initiated the transfer some 9 days ago (21st Nov 2006 ).

Now the status of the domains are both showing as "REGREQSUCCESS" for the past 8 days. The legend at the bottom refer this status as

" Our system successfully requested transfer of domain. Our systems must now wait for the registry to approve the transfer of the domain. "

My question is " Is it normal for registry to take more than 8 days to approve a domain transfer?"

I thought the transfer process usually takes less than 5 days and more often 72 hours?:greenconfused:

Is there anything I can do to make this process faster?

thanks for any help in advance:)

you should email support on the issue, it usually does not take more than 5 days , usually after 5 days you will get a "failed" email if the transfer did not go through.

do I email the recieving or the losing registrar?

I talked to domaindiscover (losing registrar) just now, they said that their duty is just to unlock the domain.

I have emailed dotster , but they haven't answered despite their automated email said that they would reply within 24 hours (it's been about 30 hours).

It is strange because according to the status, it's the registry who hasn't approved the transfer yet. I am assuming "registry" refers to ICANN?

see if you can find a phone number for dotster support, that usually works much better , did you have all 3 auth codes when transfering?

unfortunately, I live in Australia and it is a pain calling overseas.

Yes, I have entered Auth code, Transaction ID and Security Code correctly.
As per status said, it's up to the "registry" (whatever it is) to approve the transfer.

The only problem is that it is taking so long and I am not sure if things are moving along :( I hope Dotster will answer the emails which I sent.

the registry meaning the central registrar , not icann, either verisign - pir - neustar etc.., depending on the extension.

Just like DNJet says, once the transfer has been passed on to the registry, it should complete within 5 days. If the losing registrar does not respond, the registry will auto-complete it.

However there are additional time frames that can slow down the transfer, for example the initial approval email to the current admin contact and other automated processes (i.e. checking for transfer completion), depending on how your registrar handles those.
