For those of you on social network sites like the title mentions, do you find benefit in participating?

First, believe it or not...I hate chats as in chat rooms.

I know.

My responses here tend to be long winded and that comes with years of documenting every thing in minute detail.

Have you been able to build your business?

That business my be in the form of traffic, sales, site applications, increased site usage, pimping your domain sales.

Over the years I have received a ton of requests for LinkedIn.

These come from advertising people, former clients, and members of the medical community.

I am trying to build up a site following to get the 1 million mark in users (currently over 540K).

Would like to hear some benefits and the down side to these social networking groups.

Myspace - social network for high school and younger crowd. I mainly have mine to keep in contact with one or two friends and keep an eye on some bands.
Facebook - for the late high school, college, and early post-college crowd. I mainly have it to keep in contact with friends from back home and to play Metropolis.
LinkedIn - for post college and professional networking (mainly job related networking). Mainly for professional networking, work contacts, and so on.

No luck from me for business but it is good to keep in contact with old friends.

I think face book is over reaching...they really should stick to what they have done best...as a college age site posting party pictures and gossip between friends...athough they are growing at an alarming rate with the 35+ crowd...I saw this vid on you tube and though it was hilarious...but true.

I've noticed amongst my group of friends that Facebook is slowing down, not as many people post as they used to and many have deleted their profiles.

I do know someone who increased their business by 400% in 1 month from creating a Facebook group based on their book.

I've sold 4/5 domains at peoples on FB in past.
These days I don't have the time to join the social network...too much time consuming.
