Hello Everyone....
A few things stand out to me that started as markets started slowing down, first all these .whatevers do seem to be hurting .coms in a few ways. First many are finding ones like .tv and others very usable, 2nd google is losing market shares. They have cut down on incomes of many domainers, and many new ways have come about to earn money.
The free ride is now over or is it, as it never was a free ride to start with. The shake out has not hurt real pro's any, and the real domaining pro's never seen it as a free ride. They invested time and money into a real biz, they got fine tuned traffic and that always worth money. The free ride was people stealing, trying to sell junk traffic for hits and collected the money.
None the less the market is changing and will change much more, first google has moved to insure it's would be able to make it. Google is close to not needing clicks from publishers, this year will likely be the hardest to earn from google. Why share the money when you can have it all your self, it's to the point digital techs from other will bleed google to death.
If they don't move to cut it off by doing it all them self's, domains will not catch the buzz they once had. Yes .coms will always have a market, but that market is getting smaller and smaller every day. Places like godaddy are also moving to stay alive, only the ones with sound pricing will stay alive.
The part time domainer will pass into the night from witch they came, only the domainers with sound biz models will stay domaining. And domaining will not be their only bread winner, they will bring other things related to domaining into their biz model. They will cut lose all but the best domains, and will only invest in proven domains as well.
The time has come to where, domaining must meet the real world biz standards or fad away. With only a few buying and selling domains left, the .whatever will keep watering down all domains. This may be the year all domainers back away from the .whatever's, as many have found most of them lose money.
Godaddy is between a rock and a hard place, keep selling them cheap and go under. Or charge more for them and get little sales, the .whatever is and has become a junk yard of junk domains. People will not buy all the hype anymore, a .whatever with red lipstick is still a .whatever with red lipstick. Stop the madness already, it would not shock anyone if they come out with .madness for $50 a year madness.
Well there is my thoughts on domaining, right or wrong they are my thoughts on it. If you think other wise or agree, then please feel free to post your thoughts then.
