subdomains (www) don't matter on search engine listings if you own the domain.

What does listed on yahoo mean if you found it in a Yahoo search, it may just be in DMOZ which is free and easy to get listed. It it's in the Yahoo Directory (drill down to directory structure), that can be worth something IF it's in the category you need it to be in. If directed to a specific page, you need to crate the exact same page to do any good, and it's probably not worth that much. If directed to the default or page, that is good.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply.
Well it seems from what you said that it's not worth anything - it doesn't appear within a directory, only when you search the web. And even when you click on 'search this site' you still don't get shown the root.

Go to http://dmoz.org/ and try the same domain or search term. If it looks the same, it's in DMOZ, not Yahoo. Yahoo uses DMOZ in it's search as well as it's own pay list directory.

I have another question
I have found 3 or 4 sites that have expired that are definitely listed within the Yahoo Directory and not just like DMoz. The problem is that although the domains have multiple purposes the people who registered them did so as very specific things - example a site that could be used to refer to racing is in the music section about a band. Can listings be updated if you are not the person who originally registered with Yahoo or must you just rely on traffic from an already registered name?
Thanks for your attention.

Yahoo will probably delete them eventually when they clean their databases to make way for paying customers.

But the point is, a person that clicks on a link doesn't want to be tricked into believing something else. Traffic is not everything. An engaging and useful site experience is where the game is from now on.
