The original owner of IRAN.com lived few blocks from my apartment. I wanted to buy the domain in 2004, banks would not approve my application for a loan. Look at it now, buyer after buyer profiting from the sales.

If I had money in the bank now, I would bid and win the domain. With the right developing team and marketing team. Domain will generate $100+ Million Dollars a year

joseph.com
Decided to wait & register it on my birthday just to have the date set. Discovered that a week before my birthday someone registered it and still has it.

Lesson learned:
Don't freaking wait to register a domain you want when it is still available.

I have too many I would like to own (or could have fairly easily got in the past) to list here.

Luck and timing was a huge factor in why so many great names are owned by someone other than yourself. With a few notable exceptions (i.e. DomainKing) it probably had little to do with smarts or having a crystal ball.

Patience is the key to owning a great domain name. A domain name registered today will be seen as brilliant 20 years from now ;)
