From CBSwatch.com:
Trademark tussles in China domain
Speculators are reserving many famous trademark names in the newly created "dot-cn" domain, the official Internet address for the People's Republic of China. EnCirca, a domain registrar, said cyber squatters are ignoring the history of battles and losses they endured in the dot-com domain. "The dot-cn registry dispute policies are not as trademark-friendly as dot-com's are," EnCirca said. "This means that trademark owners will need to repeat the battle they waged." The top countries represented by pre-registrants for the China domain are the United States (46 percent), Germany (10 percent) and Switzerland (9 percent).
____
This explains the Verisign.cn, CocaCola.cn, etc registrations. Also worthy to note: Looks like everyone else but China pre-reg'd these names.
