Don't ever let a name drop at Dotster. They will hound you with 100 emails letting you know it's about to expire and every day along the way.

These domains are set to expire in 10 days....

Please note that the domain name registrations listed above expired 1 days ago...

Why not complaint about it to the FTC here?

The problem is worse than that. They claim to 'not know' that I transferred names out MONTHS ago, so I get hounded -- DAILY - to 'renew' names that are not even at Dotster and are not expiring! I complained to the twice, and the response is they "have no want to determine that the name is at a different registrar", even though I have to confirm every transfer AT THEIR OWN WEBSITE!

As I told them, this is a SCAM, they are making false statements in order to collect money from me to which they are not entitled. I guess Dotster is unfamiliar with the WHOIS database? Extreme stupidy is not an excuse to perpetuate a scam. They will not stop.

same here. BUT.

so far the only requests I get for what I believe to be domain Hijacking come from Dotster.

I must hold the record, at now, a total, of 48 domain requests for transfers after 'D' day...
mostly to domains that are not at dotster, and mostly to some people whom I never heard of.

I lock the names, but, what If I take a 5 day vacation, heaven forbid??

That's cock and bull. The top stat-based registrars don't even send notices
for names no longer with them, not even NetSol (unless I missed one).

Chances are, it won't stop unless someone threatens either legal action or the
FTC steps in.

Just another thought: don't they have any opt-out options whatsoever? If so,
they definitely should honor them.

I had a terrible time with Dotster and Namescout this past summer.

They were bombarding me with emails.
And, when the email would come in. I would check to see where the name
was. Fortunately, I had transferred most of them to Enom.

Unfortunately, I ignored some, thinking I had already moved those name.
And, it cost me big time.

Now what I do with Dotster is push the domains that continue to show
in the acct (eventhough they have been transferred away) into another
Dotster acct that does not have the correct email address.

Then, they don't have me chasing my tail every time a batch of Dotster's
notices arrive.

To answer the opt-out question, they asked me to send a list of names they were sending me notices on, and they would remove them.

The NEXT DAY it all started again with different names! How in the &^%%# am I supposed to come up with a list of all names NOT at Dotster? It's silly, it should be the job of the registrar to know which names are under their management!

Gregr - you are LUCKY, you can still control the registration since it's still here. I usually change the email to someone I don't like... used to be OJ Simpson or his attorneys, but and a-hole will do. Let them enjoy the spam and spend a lot of time figuring what is going on :) You can't even do that if the names aren't at Dotster.
