A friend told me the way to renew DotSter's domains for $8.50/each.
I think it's useful so that I posted his message here (* shows my comments).

> It's difficult to judge whether it's good or not. You might renew DotSter's domains
> for cheaper than regular price ($14.95) withtout transferring out them to other registrars.
> This is just for your information. Please remember it's still at your own risk to do.
>
> 1. Go to https://secure.registerapi.com/account/?siteid=20788 and create a new account.
* It's creating just an mydomain account to registar domains.

> 2. Go to dotster.com and login with your DotSter's account. Push your domains to the
> new account as above. I have tested it's easy to push without problems.
* You will see it's easy to push domains among DotSter/NamesDirect/MyDomain acconts.

> 3. Again, go to mydomain.com (or dotster.com) and login with your mydomain account.
> You can renew domains for $8.50/each with this account.
> (I haven't paid the renew fee, actually.)
* You will see you can login dotster.com/namesdirect.com/mydomain.com with any of
your dotster/namesdirect/mydomain accounts.
The user interface will be changed just according to your account.

> 4. Push them back to your DotSter's account (if you need).

Good info
But still $8.50/each is to much, I transfer names to my enom $6,95 account.

Yes, I think many members here might have cheaper account in eNom. So do I. :)
Anyway, I think $8.50 is good price for people who own small number of domains.
*PowerPipe/$7.99, namecheap/$8.88, godaddy/-$8.95, $9.99(sometimes $7.99 sale)/RegisterFly

DomainDuck,

I haven't transferred any domains out of Dotster for a long time. But, I am sure I will sometime in the immediate future.

Have they put new "road blocks" in the way because of the crack down on hijacking of domains?

Act,

Almost every registrar transfer away from Dotster is a big fat time-consuming headache and hassle and I transfer names almost every week. One week the transfers go okay, the next week they don't. As an active and long-time reseller with a personal stash of 700 domains, I should be treated better.

I send email after email - polite - begging - mad.... nothing works. And right now I have two sales awaiting transfers.

The same transfer from Register.com takes two days. Bing - Bang - Boom - DONE. Same with RegisterFly - Bing - Bang - Boom. But not Dotster. With Dotster it's Blah, Blah, Blah. Pathetic.

What hijacks are you referring to? I had a name hijacked from Dotster, but thought it was an isolated occurance.

quack.

When I sell a domain that is in Dotster. I just push it into a new dotster acct.

I have transfered a lot domains to my Enom acct from other registrars. Most of the time. It goes very well. (I think the only time I had major difficulty was with dotregister.)

I speculate that Dotster operates with a very lean staff. And, that might be the problem.

Is it just the time they take or that your transfer gets cancelled, duck?

Mole,

Of the last six transfers, four were cancelled, so I had to resubmit and send beggers' email to get it done. The last two transfers have been waiting since June 21 and June 23 respectively.

In comparison, since I posted my first comment on this thread, I have successfully transferred two domain names away from Register.com... Why can't Dotster be as efficient?

What recourse do I have? Lawyer, ICANN or beg, beg, and beg somemore?

I feel like a hostage to whatever Dotster.com wants to do - No rules.
