Version 2.6 of DropShark has completed the test phase for server-side changes as well as performance improvements. I've added a few new features, but now is the time to make your voice heard if there are features you'd like to see added.

This is a freebie for registered users, as all registered users will be receiving the upgrade to 2.6 at no cost (that means if you've been thinking out purchasing 2.5, you've nothing to lose).

Search modes, external sites that you'd like added to the "selected domains" toolbox, import/export options, and even ancilliary features like checking for availability and other "normal" domain tools are on the table.

Tell me what you're after! Any features in other tools that you use that would be very helpful to you if they were integrated into DropShark? (Provided they don't have patent protection, I'm more than happy to develop them on my own).

I'm setting the feature request cutoff for 31 January, as I plan to have 2.6 pushed out before 1 March if at all possible before moving to 3.0, which will include a number of auction-management tools as well as portfolio tools and analysis based on the research I've done over the past three years running eNom's Club Drop.

Keep up the good work with DropShark! I don't have any feature requests right now.

I should also mention that I have code ready should CLS become a reality, so that DropShark will track both CLS names as well as those names that pass through CLS and drop. Yes, even with CLS there will still be a drop.

But I'm not putting that code live until/unless CLS happens, as it's rather useless until then. But some have asked, so here's your answer: yes :)

I get a file not found error when I try to go to the "News" page from within Dropshark. Does the page not exist or is something wrong on my side?

Also, do .info .org. .biz and .us extensions actually load or is there no feed for them as of yet. They never load for me. I only get .com and .net.

And, once I download the days list do I also have to re-download it each time I restart Dropshark? Sometimes I want to search for new keywords within a list that I already had searched previously but I always have to redownload the list which takes some time. Doesn't Dropshark save the list to the hard drive and then access it from there in each successive use?

The news link goes to a page that I discontinued due to lack of interest from readers - so I'll remove it in version 2.6 :)

I had a feed for the other TLDs and discontinued it also due to lack of serious interest. I am, however, building in the ability for 2.6 to choose which TLDs to download from the server, so I'll be turning them back on. The idea is that the extra data was just making things slow for users who didn't want it. This will let those users remain fast, but provide the lists for those who want them.

DropShark does not save the list locally simply because it would fill up your drive in very short order. That said, I'm thinking that caching them on a 5-day rotating schedule would be smart.

For compound words, I would love to be able to also get 3 word names from a list.
FreeMusicDownloads etc.

Also a little bug, when loading my list, after I am done and press reset I cannot load another my list, I need to restart the program.

I agree with NameTower as well. 3 word compound list would be very nice.

Up to version 2.5, 3-word would have been difficult. It no longer is, so yes, I can include this in 2.6.

I've asked this before, but let me ask again - why would you want to export more than 3000 names? (serious question)

How about choosing between dictionary word lists to search on. (ie, English, French, Spanish...etc) ?

Name Spinner functionality ? (ie, search for a term, and show up likewise terms to choose from, see Domainsbot functionality)

Searching for typos ?

Otherwise good work considering the move you made with developing in .NET 2.0

Looking for developers to assist with the development ?

Cheers

Dictionary management is on the list, yes. That said, pointers to plain-text foreign dictionaries in ASCII format would be helpful.

I'm not making nearly enough money on DropShark to hire developers, though :)

It's great software!

Mostly I'd like it to be a little less of a resource hog. I've had it freeze when I ran another app in the foreground during a search, and I couldn't get back to it without killing it as a task. It's also really hidden as an app now - it does not exist in the "program files" folder. Any reason for that?

A couple of convenience items:

I wish it would save the "selected" domains unless they are deleted by the user. Now, once I close the program they are gone unless I save them to a file manually. I'd like to be able to build the "selected" list over a few days and then decide which are the best names to pursue off of the list. As it is I have to write them down on paper each day so I don't lose them.

Also, would be nice if the software would keep track of which dates have been downloaded already. Sometimes I forget which days domain lists I have already searched through and redownload the same one over again and don't realize it until I recognize a name when going through the list. Maybe if it would just change the font of the date on the "load lists" area to red or something once that date had been downloaded.

Does the program ever require a valid email address? My email has since changed but I don't see how to change it within the program.

Good suggestions - I've updated the feature list, and I'm working on the next version even now.

It's still a memory hog, simply because it needs to store its analysis tables in memory - but it's less of a processor hog in the next version, that's for sure.

One other thing I'd like to see - Bigger fonts in the domain lists. I have to use my reading glasses when I use it with a hi-def monitor. Maybe resizable fonts if some people like them the way that they are in 2.5.

Make sure your focus is in the right pane and use the scroll on your mouse.. it works the same as Firefox.

Cheers.
