The below is from the dropwizard site. Notice that gordon tells us:

"Where bonus amounts do not fairly reflect the value of the name. We reserve the right to terminate reservations and move the reservation to a client that will dedicate the resources necessary to obtain the name."

so it seems gordon would penalize someone to add a bonus, instead of just plan paying him $120 to get the name! Am i wrong?

--------------------------------
BONUS INFORMATION
We will add extra bandwidth to your name when it is run.

All bonuses are for SUCCESS ONLY
The size of the bonus determines the amount of bandwidth devoted to your name.
Please make your bonus amount realistically reflect the value of the domain name.
There is little point in us running "A" Names for $100 bonus. There are too many servers pointed at such names for this to be effective.

Where bonus amounts do not fairly reflect the value of the name. We reserve the right to terminate reservations and move the reservation to a client that will dedicate the resources necessary to obtain the name.

We do not like to take this route but we have had some ridiculous situations of late. Our alternative is to turn this into an auction site. And allow the top bids to win. If you have an "A" name and are not prepared to spend the resources to get it

DO NOT ENTER IT INTO THE SYSTEM

We also reserve the right to demand proof of ability to pay the bonus amounts indicated including having them ON DEPOSIT with us PRIOR to running the name.

As I've said before, I think the auction method is a great idea for both DropWizard AND for his customers who are willing to pay more for certain names. I think it's a fairer system than the current Bonus idea too.

The Bonus concept seems to allow for favoritism in choosing who a domain is allocated for, while the auction concept would automatically go to the client offering to pay the most. Not that this is how it is, but how it can be perceived.

So far it's more or less a closed system and may be limited to the amount of customers that will ever utilize it. The system in an auction format would also be open to more customers, rather than turning them away because they're always too late to place a bid on a name. They will return and become regular customers then. Dropwizard could make more money, and devote more to invest in their resources.

I like the system the way it is now. The bonus bids have been a nice addition.

I just wish Verisign would drop names in alphabetical order.

The efficiency of the drop system would dramatically improve.

Yes, you are wrong! The names with bonus bids will have more resources allocated to them. Names with the highest bonus bids will get the top slots for that day's drops. The names with no bonus bids will go into the "normal" pool of orders where all names will be allocated an equal amount of resources.

There are days when we are shooting for a lot of names whereas a lot them have bonus bids as well. In order to give the highest bids the best chances for getting their names, we might have to degrade the names with the lowest bonus bids to the "normal" pool of orders.

The bonus bids have proven to be an investment worthwhile, since the ratio for successful grabs are much higher for those.

If you really want the name, the bonus bid is highly recommended!

Seems to me a good system. I like having a different option than snapnames, namewinner, etc. If you want to bid high on a name there is always namewinner which seems to be having very good success lately (over 50%).

DW grabbed a name today that I had in four services including snapnames.

Luck of the draw maybe but snapnames SEEMS to be taking it in the teeth on drops lately...maybe just how I FEEL based on names I'm after coupled with other posts on this board.

Good job DW
