Made the mistake of buying some names from easyspace a couple of years ago, service sucks, cannot do a "block" anything - all individual operations.

They have now "improved " their site, i.e. increased prices dramatically.

To get out from under I had been transferring names out now they have added a 49 pound sterling ($85) transfer out fee - absolutely scandalous.

DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE

After dealing with them for 2 1/2 years I can say that Easyspace are definately slimeballs and complete ripoff artists.

Easyspace.com sucks big time.

When I was with them a few yrs ago they used very low priced original reg fee as a way to get you in the oor but then charged incredibly high renewal fee, and if you did not want to pay that big renewal cost they wanted $35 to transfer away at that time, even more now.

I let almost all my names there expire rather than deal with such ripoff scum.

P.S. For some odd reason there are other firms in the U.K. with similar non-friendly and over-priced crap, including paying to transfer away, not sure why these bad registrars seem to be mostly located in England and Asia? I have dealt with other registrars in Europe and they do not seem so bad vs the UK and Asian ones. Anyone know why?

In truth it is probably harder to do cheap business in the UK - considering the long-time dollar/sterling exchange rate, it hasn't been easy to justify not using US companies for servers, hosting, registering etc. Maybe they need some way to make some money!
There are some very good registrars in the UK, not the least of which is 123-reg - which ones have you found to be extortionate or inefficient?

Do not recall the other UK registrar names I have dealt with some yrs ago (there has also been negative talk about others at the forums) but one example is Nominet, who sends me renewal bills quite often at incredible cost, high 2 figures. They also make changes almost impossible requring postal mail (perhaps they do not yet know about online commerce in the UK) and other BS and complex and tedious paperwork made far more complicated than needed They also make it extremely difficult (perhaps not even there) to see their fees on the website.

In addition both Nominet and Easyspace have very poor cust service depts (worthless or zero supt from easyspace.com) in that they simply do not bother to reply at all most of the time, and if they do respond their emails take a very long time.

I agree that Nominet make things very difficult with all of their paperwork and the £35 transfer of ownership fee is scandalous, it also leads to problems with domain sales.

All the more reason to not buy U.K. domains and why the UK resale market is not that good overall with occasional exceptions. Let almost all expire except for a few of them which are reg'd at Tucows, except for one. Tried to transfer those to godaddy for lower cost but no success after lots of wasted time.

I purch a UK name here at dnf some time ago and even though the registrars own Whois say's I do in fact own the name (which cust serv also verified in an email) both the Nominet and other Whois's report the old owner still owns it. Tried to get it resolved for ages with no success. Does anyone know if I really own the name and how to fix this issue? This really sucks.

Transfer of .uk names require a change of ownership form to be completed and the £30 transfer charge to be paid: http://www.nic.uk/MakingChangesToYourDomainName/Transfer/

We rigorously check the authenticity of any transfer between domain name holders. Nominet carefully checks that the transfer request is genuine and that the correct authority has been given. It is vital, therefore, that registrants ensure that all the information requested on the transfer form is provided correctly in order to avoid delays in processing requests.

The following points are very important when completing a transfer form:

The transfer form has two parts.
An authorised representative of both the current registrant (Transferor) and the proposed registrant (Transferee) must complete their part of the form. The authorised representative must be a Director or Company Secretary in the case of an active UK Limited/Public Limited Company, the appointed insolvency Practitioner, a senior partner in a partnership, the proprietor of an unincorporated business, or the registrant themselves where the domain name is registered to a private individual. We will accept the signature of a senior official for other types of organisations, eg clubs or societies, charities and trade associations.
The proposed new registrant should complete sections six to nine of the transfer form, ensuring that they enter the full legal name of the proposed new registrant, as this information will be recorded on the Nominet UK database.
We are unable to accept transfer forms printed on the reverse of a domain name registration certificate, as these are no longer valid. In order for us to process your transfer you must send a Transfer of Domain Name Registration form.

In order to allow us to issue a Transfer of Domain Name Registration form we will need to know the specific domain name(s) concerned, a contact name and the postal address to which the forms should be issued. You can request a Transfer form by contacting our Registration Services Group at [email protected] , by fax to (01865) 332295 or by post to Nominet UK, Sandford Gate, Sandy Lane West, Oxford, United Kingdom OX4 6LB.
