I have a couple questions regarding a name I won on eBay. . .

So, I won an eBay auction for a domain name over a week ago, paid via PayPal within an hour of winning, and sent my GoDaddy information shortly thereafter. I have tried contacting the seller in several ways but have yet to hear from them.

The PayPal transaction shows up as “unclaimed” in my account, so I know I can get my money back, but the point is that I really want this name. It expires in a few days and I don’t want it to slip away from me. On top of that, I also see that it is on TDNAM with over a month left on the auction and an asking price in the low $X,XXX range… much more than the low $XX that I won it for on eBay.

My First question:

Does anyone have a recommendation of how to handle the eBay deal? I’m pretty sure I’m just screwed on winning the name since they haven’t claimed payment yet, but I’m open to suggestions on other ways of getting the seller to complete the transaction.

Second questions:

What is the best way to grab a domain that expires. I’m relatively new to the domaining business and this is the first time that I have been aware of a dropping domain that I wanted to grab. From searching the DNForums, it appears that it’s just a matter of signing up for all the Drop Catcher services and hope one of them snags it for you…. is that all I can do, or is there more to it that I am missing?

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

Catching the name on the drop depends on where the name is regged....where is it regged?

As for the no response, yup - you are screwed.

If they have not accepted payment, then there is the issue.

Otherwise, you could contact the legal department at the registrar along with proof of purchase and its a done deal. Has never failed me.

Start by filing a claim against the seller with ebay.

Still no response? Leave a big ol fat red neg.

Suck it up and be prepared to get a negative feedback in return.

If it expires at godaddy...it will go to TDNAM auction as an expired name starting at $10...if no one bids on it (except you)...you can get it at $10. My advice if it goes to an expired auction would be to stalk it until gets to about 2-3 minutes left and then bid....

It sounds like the ebay auction is run by a dead beat seller....this however may ensure that the seller will renew the name.

Good luck.

Actually Ebay has disabled sellers to leave negative feedback so leave the negative and do not worry about the person retaliating. They can't
I was not aware of that. I knew deadbeat buyers could not longer retaliate but was unaware of the seller being disabled also.

This is a system change that was long overdue.

the only reason the payment shows as unclaimed is becuase the email address payment was sent to is not a registered with paypal or to a paypal account.

The best thing to do is contact the person. eBay will give you the contact info of the person if you ask. Just use there live chat to get the guys contact info and let them know you paid and his email address has not been added to his paypal account.

There are also some settings in PayPal that a person can setup to make it so that they have to manually accept certain types of transactions.

I think it's like transactions that are funded a certain way or from different countries.

I agree that you should contact PayPal and eBay through the dispute mechanisms in place.
