Could you implement the ability to edit posts in a closed thread? This could be beneficial to members who say things like "randomdomain.com sold for $200" and then the OP requesting the thread to be closed before the member is able to edit out the domain / sales price. There are other benefits as well.

Thanks for the consideration.

That could lead to important threads being edited past their closure for other reasons: to remove evidence of theft, behavior, statements etc. Scripta manent. ;)

That is true, however edits are saved and could be brought back if necessary.

If... you follow and abide by the very liberal posting rules, then your thread won't get closed.

which means you would still have ability to edit your thread, accordingly.

there are plenty of members who create sales threads, who have "never" had their sales threads closed.

That could lead to important threads being edited past their closure for other reasons: to remove evidence of theft, behavior, statements etc. Scripta manent. ;)

Excellent example of why you can't edit your thread, after it's been closed by staff.

imo..

Maybe only in the sales section then? If there's a legal issue with a sale, it's normally moved to disputes.

Why is everyone afraid to show how much a domain sold/bought for? "Buyer has an NDA on the final sale price." That is the biggest load of horse hockey (thank you Col. Potter of MASH) If you don't want to do business out in the open...DON"T DO BUSINESS OUT IN THE OPEN.

what about before it gets moved to disputes section.

your suggestion defeats the purpose of "closing" a thread, if the OP can go back and edit it later.

the closure, can be seen either as a "deterrent" to ignoring or forgeting the posting rules or an "incentive" to remember the posting rules before/when creating a thread.

imo...

biggie and theo, I get the points you made but I agree w/the post by David I'm quoting. All entries before edits retain a digital imprint, ie Adam/admins/mods can always access what a thread/post exactly looked like at some point in time, and if there were a subpoena after a user is identified as someone involved in a WIPO or some legal dispute, DNF could always come up w/the original entries. And just how often does a domain forum get legal notice/subpoena to turn over records anyway ? I have no idea if this has ever even happened at DNF.....

Last March I started a thread in this section that editing should be allowed by Adam, Chuck, etc in Domain Legal Issues and my reasoning was exactly what the TS said in this quote. I understand the Legal section lends itself to being a potential place of interest if DNF were to "bear witness" to something, but my suggestion was that if that wasn't possible, then to simply add a new subforum for legal maters in Platinum or Gold where editing was allowed, since not many have access to the TM section in Exclusive, and the two domain lawyer subforums aren't visited as much as Domain Legal Issues, so practically all legal matters end up in one subforum, ie in Domain Legal Issues (biggie, I had read what you said there and I hear ya, and Chuck liked your answer lol, so I'm not keeping my hopes high) So the digital records kept by DNF was also my point there...

As for not editing in closed threads, assuming all closed threads end up that way for a strong reason (illicit content, insults/lies, possible scammer) then I don't have that big a problem w/that. Sales can be another matter, and that was the point by the TS. When I spoke about Legal Domain Issues and editing not permitted I wasn't even thinking of some statement I might've made which I later may want to recant, that would be bad if they identified me as a party in some litigation, it was actually for spelling (and I can live with misspellings) and the total post structure, which may be more important (make it easier to read, better flow of thoughts, synthesizing), sometimes posts look longer or disorganized once they're actually seen, and depending on which device you use to write/read on DNF (pc vs tablet or smartphone) .... just my thoughts.....

That is true, however edits are saved and could be brought back if necessary

to my knowledge, once a post has been edited and saved, there is no retention of original.

unless it can be viewed in cache or archive, and if there is such a digital imprint to retrieve, i have no knowledge of that either.

so maybe you and David know something i don't

This thread was for a personal agenda only, but with vB, all edits can be saved. I don't know if it was a plugin or changing a default setting, I can see edits on a forum of my own.

I hardly ever come here anymore as this forum is just about worthless these days. It used to be a good place to get ideas and make money. I was posting in a thread for the first time in many months and what do you know, it was closed for no valid reason except some moderator has nothing to do so they look for reasons to close posts. http://www.dnforum.com/f604/buttcoin-takes-p-ss-bitcoin-thread-504455.html#post2153080

The domain industry has turned into a bunch of bean counters and little old ladies. No innovation left here.

PS - there are no important threads here anymore so it really doesn't matter if they get edited.

That DomainGang thread was closed by me because a) the news was parody and you guys took it way too seriously and b) fresher news deserves less burying by other threads.

Sorry to hear that you don't value DNForum anymore; IMO it's the best domain-related forum but it's hard to please everybody.

You are one of the ones I referred to when I mentioned thousands of useless posts. You have ruined this forum with all the stuff you post and you drive people away. This forum sucks anymore because of you and a few others.

I am also sick of your parody game. When it suits you it is news and when it suits you it is parody. You are a little old lady.

A little old lady? Sorry, that's the one that was banned last week.

Seriously, seek some entertainment elsewhere if we can't fill your life's gaps.

My CPA would laugh at this statement.

Any other issues you have with me? I mean, for someone who sold me several domains over the past decade, you come forth as quite the douchebag.
