I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but here is my situation:

I am currently in a bid for egift.com which just came back on the market. I backordered this domain and now I am competing against 97 bidders in a closed auction. Meaning no one else can come into the bid. The bid is already up to $1,000 and there is still a day and a half left. Do you think it's worth going after? If so, how much do you think I should go up to? The bid ends Jan. 24 at 11:30am.

All the major players like Buydomains, Vaxis etc. will bid exorbitant sums, they have plenty of cash to spend every day and they are looking for ROI somewhere at 15%. With limited cash you can do a lot of research and get ROI over 50%. I even do not bother to bid on it...

People like buydomains have already lost their chance. The backorder service I am using has already acquired the domain. Now it's just a matter of who bids the most as of tomorrow. The only people who can bid are those like me who placed a backorder with this service before it dropped.

I posted this on another domain forum and they also suggested low $xx,xxx, which would definitely be worth it if I could get it around $3,000.

And You think buydomains, vaxis or ar enot in auction?
I see it also in my club drop, it shows something like 97 bidders.
And with $3k there is nothing You can do, it will go for more.

sorry to burst your bubble, but what makes you think that Vaxis or BD are not in the eNom auction? One of the 96 bidders?
The domain has lots of potential, and the winner will pay alot.

Oh, I'm sure BD and some of the other big players are in on this auction. They backorder domains, too. Lots of them. And they have very deep pockets. I wouldn't be surprised if this one goes for high $x,xxx to low $1x,xxx.

That's true. I'm sure there is going to some feirce competition in those last minutes of the bid, which is why I wanted to see how much you guys think would be worth going up to and still make a good profit on the re-sale.

If guess I will find out tomorrow morning what this domain will go for in the backorder. I know I'll have a disadvantage as I am not a big domain player, but I think it's worth a shot.

It will go ridiculously high, as with most backorder auctions

Enom was sending out emails to the auction participants, they shoould have the cash ready as there is no grace period, Enom must get the money within 5 days...

27K...looks like you were wrong...

I think he was pretty close, $40K is for me ubeliavable, I would actually never predict even 5 digit...
