Any emails I send out to end users are very specific to the name and the addressee.

Otherwise, it just looks like, smells like, tastes like, feels like spam.

I am in the process of co-brokering several names that are in high demand.

I may construct a form letter template to remind me of what to include.

Beyond that, I make it a very personal communication complete with my name, business, and phone number.

The letter has to fit the end user's profile and business model.

It is a lot of work but is paying off in offers and interests.

When you start approaching end user's on a personal one-on-one level you tend to open doors and get someone interested.

Otherwise, you end up being deleted with out ever being noticed.

My method works for me. Others have other means.

Plus, it doesn't hurt to have a marketable name.

Good Luck

Thanks for the advice.

Do you quote a price in your initial email?

Would you quote a fixed price or guide price and say you are open to offers?

Bensd,
I am pretty good at composing letters for end users. If you'd like you can send me the name and I can compile about three different angles that I would recommend.

I would love to help you, if you need it.

No, 90% of the time I do not quote a price.

I do not do this for every single domain I own or even broker.

For high end, premium, semi-premium I contact those that would perhaps be interested.

Depending on the name, it will typically be anywhere from 25-100 direct emails.

In rare instances affecting a huge industry or cross over from one industry to another it may be more.

The point is, those that I contact will immediately see the value in adding this domain to their business.

The name stands on it own worthiness and value to the client.

They either want it or do not.

I will say that for my personally owned names, sometimes I do add,

Accepting offers from ...

Case in point:

I am co-brokering some names right now.

One of the names the client is expecting $150K.

Very real possibility.

The domain has never dropped in 13 years and has never been used as a site.

It is close to being a category killer in at least 2 different industries which overlap each other.

I do not tell the clients what the minimum is or what the expected price will be.

I leave it to the contact to determine a value and a worth to their on-line business.

Most of the time they come back well under the price.

I thank them for their time, tell them that I will be glad to pass on the offer although the seller is expecting substantially more.

I never say no to any offer as it is not my place to say no regarding brokered names.

All offers are passed on.

Perhaps the seller decides to lower his expectations.

Plus, if you say no to a client that essentially is taken to mean and end to all communications.

Leaving the door partially open for them to come back in with a different offer is paramount.

So - no (and Yes). Sometimes with my own names I will put offers from and for a client - no.

I sent only few unsolicited offers and always got response.

1.
do not use free email

2.
Put the domain in the subject

3.
Give a serious offer, I always send what I am willing to pay, not less and hope I will get it cheap.

To domain potential (Capture name if could)

I'm so and so, a software/web developer from Seattle, Washington. I am writing to let you know I currently have the domain, (INSERT DOMAIN NAME HERE) available for acquisition. Owning this domain for your line of work would benefit you greatly as far as branding, attracting customers to your site and overall just a good match. With the popularity of the type in traffic and the fact that the tax season is coming upon us quickly. Your volume of business should increase by at least 30% just given the research that I have done for 2008. This is also a good name to acquire as someone is always looking for tax help.(INSERT WHAT THIS COULD DO FOR POTENTIAL BUSINESS)

If you would like to consider acquiring this domain name, please reply to this message no later than this coming February 21th 2009. I would be happy to discuss a price that suits your budget.(GIVE A DEADLINE, INDICATES YOU HAVE OTHER PROSPECTS, GIVES THEM A WAY OUT IF NOT INTERESTED)

In the event I do not hear from you by that point, I will contact my next (INSERT NAME HERE) candidate. I am also available to meet in person, since I am in the Seattle area. Portland is a mere few hours away.(OFFER TO MEET, MAKE YOURSELF READILY AVAILABLE)

Thank you for taking the time to read this message.

I look forward to speaking with you soon.

All the best,

Ha just noticed this is about selling domain not buying, but anyway principle remains same - keep it simple. Add# of type-in traffic.

I have had people respond to my email but then again there is always room for improvement..

Another way you can compose the email is like this:

Yo,
Got this domain.. You want it? Better buy it at xx,xxx! If you don't, you'll lose out and that would suck!

OR

Hi,
Domain for sale: xzw.com, if you are interested please submit a price

OR

You want this name better get it while you can!

I saw the exact same MSG posted on another forum a few months ago with some changes due to location differences between you and the original poster.

Yeah, thats what I have used this format and as I have gotten better with time. My letter has gotten honed. That's a generic email that has been sent out.

The OP was looking for letters that are being sent out..

I only write this:

"Hello,

I'm the owner of domainname.com

This domain is for sale.

The price is $x,xxx

Payment: Escrow, Sedo (Sedo link)

Have a great day.

- My contact details"

I've sold several domains with a mail like this.

Never use Gmail, Hotmail, etc...

^Not bad, but probably useful would be also include some basic numbers - type-in trafic, monthly number of searches (Adwords tools), number of google results with "quotes"
