Hello.

I have a domain easy2sale.com which has expired.
When i login to enom to renew the domain it says it is in redemption period but when i whois the domain it is clearly not in redemption period because status still says REGISTRAR-LOCK and the domain is still in the root zone which it wouldnt be if it was in redemption.

I sent an email to enom and got back a standard looking reply:
"The grace period for renewal has lapsed. This domain is now in extended redemption period (ERGP) and will remain in the account for at least 90 days. You can renew and recover the domain name for $160.00 while in this status. This is found under the DOMAINS drop down list, click on MY DOMAINS, REDEMPTION tab."

Is enom trying to rip me off or is there something im missing?

Thanks,
Eric

You are not alone. I've had a very similar story with Enom:

http://www.dnforum.com/f26/my-name-vanished-thread-119638.html

BTW I believe there is no such thing as "extended redemption period".
It's just Enom's way of saying "the name has expired but we won't release it the normal way". They have renewed my name and are now keeping it to themselves.
It looks like your name may have expired in spite of the whois output is saying. The expiry date shown is more the 'sponsored until' date than the actual date.
Problem is, if Enom claims your name has expired you technically are no longer the owner and can have no claims on it.
Now it's up to you to trace the history of ownership of this name.
Good luck.

I had 2 days left on my littlenetstore.com at enom, and did not have time to to get the $100 funds onto my credit card for enom. So I started the transfer to hostway the next day, enom left it go 1 day after it expired.

I paid the hostway reg fee to transfer it, I was not sure enom would let it go. So I called hostway they said it was not a problem, that once the transfer was start enom will release it even if it's expired.

So by that info, you may be able to transfer it out, just make sure you start it where you want it to go. It may work and is worth a try and may save you $160 on it, most places charge reg fee to start the transfer.

GoDaddy is guilty of the same offense. They said I had to pay $80 for a domain which was in redemption period. It clearly wasn't at the time. I argued with the person on the phone for about an hour. The name never once entered the redemption period and was given to another customer. This can be proven by the original registration date. To have a policy that explains the redemption period and an associated fee when it does not even apply constitutes fraud in my opinion and is a dishonest trade practice.

I think they simply renew every expiring domain with their money, check the traffic, some people pay $160, some domains will have PPC income and the rest they drop after 1 year. They renewed every crap domain I let intentionally let expire.

I have to laugh that 50% of crap domains I let expire someone else grabs (to let it expire 1 year later when maybe someone else grabs it :)
