I'm in the same boat. My name expires in less than 60 days and I want to move it to my enom acct. but can't because they are holding it "hostage". Terrible way to do business.

I have no info on them, but a few weeks ago I transferred a name from esoftwiz to eNom.

No problem at all.

As I remember, the name had to be unlocked using their customer control panel
http://manage.esoftwiz.com/customer?

Interesting, I can't even pull up their Contacts page. I did find out,
though, they're a reseller for Go Daddy.

Can any of you log inside your respective accounts? Chances are, you
may have to send a fax to them.

Any updates?

Yes, I logged in a few minutes ago, though I no longer have any names there.

I have a couple names with them.

I have been transferring all of them out of there this week.

There system is very difficult. It takes a long time to work thru
the system. But, the worse part is that their server is extremely
slow.

So, you hit and wait.
And, do not leave the screen because it will never come up
while you are gone. (Some how it knows when you have a couple
screen sites open.)

My mistake. You're right, they are indeed a registrar based in Canada.

Thanks for the correction! :eek:k:

Despite the ICANN rule change that went into effect last November, eSoftwiz apparently still feels the rules do not apply to them. I am trying to get 4 domains out of their right now (acquired via Pool last year) and they are throwing up the usual BS roadblocks, including locked domains you can't unlock. The option appears in the interface but they grayed it out in the locked position so it cannot be changed and have ignored my email request to fix it. So, today I filed a formal complaint against them with ICANN. In the past this has always proven effective for me in getting these kinds of operators to stop acting like outlaws and honor their customer's rights and wishes.

I have unlocked a name with them but the transfer is not going through because the other registrar cant get the whois info from Esoftwiz :(. Already tried twice with no luck and now the domain expires in less than a week.

Yes, I also have that problem on two of the domains I am trying to get out of there. Fortunately mine don't expire until early May. With no-name outfits like this I have learned to start on the outbound transfers a little earlier as problems are far more likely to crop up with them. I've also noticed that these registrars that try to keep you from leaving invariably have higher renewal prices than the overall market (esoftwiz charges triple what I pay at enom). I'm sure it is no coincidence that high prices and hostage taking always go hand in hand. It shows the true intentions of people who operate this way.

Is there anyway around the whois problem? It does not appear as to be as simple as just unlocking (relatively speaking) the name.

I agree, Duke. I have yet to run across a Pool or SnapNames.com partner registrar where it was cheaper to leave it there. In fact, I let one of my lesser snaps expire for that reason last year. Of course, it was caught when it dropped lol. This is where Enom, Godaddy, and even Dotster/NameWinner have an advantage over SnapNames and Pool imo.

Fortunately it looks like there is. I contacted Enom's support and they tell me they have manually verified my contact information goes with those 2 domains so they are going forward with the transfer in on them (if esoftwiz doens't find some other way to block them). These are the two that were not locked. I still have the problem with the two that are locked with no way to unlock them or get them to respond to requests to unlock them. I expect that ICANN will take care of that in the next couple of days though (at least that has been my experience in the past when bringing registrar abuse to their attention).

They two that were unlocked (that Enom manually confirmed WhoIs info) look like they will be transferred as I have gotten the automated confirmation emails. Still no action from them on the two that they will not unlock. When a registrar gives you only two options, lose your property or pay us an extortionate renewal fee, IMO they cross the boundary between mismanagement and criminal activity. I am going to give them 72 hours to act on my complaint and ICANN's inquiry. If they fail to do so I will post the name, address and phone number of eSoftwiz.com's owner here and in a warning item at DNJournal.com. Allowing registrars to act as shakedown artists has been going on for far too long. There should be no place for those kinds of operators in this industry.

Agreed, something needs to be done about this.

I sent a transfer request from Enom (sent a note to their transfer department as well) last night in the hope I would not be forced to pay the huge renewal fee. However, the domain expires on March 24th so it's definitely cutting it close. If the transfer doesnt happen in time, I guess they will get their wish because I have an operating site on the domain and have no choice but to renew.

Thanks for the info Adam! According to the WhoIs record for esoftwiz.com at GoDaddy, the name on all contacts is:

Ali Khan
30 Kimbercroft Court #501
Toronto

The phone number he uses on the WhoIs is that same cell phone # you have. Mark, Mustafa and Ali may all be aliases for the same person. You would think with three personalities he would have enough manpower to answer questions from his customers! :)
