If you have a generic .com name that has never been developed, and there is a developed site on the .org or .net, what are some metrics to measure what the possible spillover traffic will be?

For example, lets say I own citynamemuseums.com and the citynamemuseums.org is developed, can I guess that for every 100 type ins that the .org gets, the .com will get 1 or 5 or some other number?

I know that this is hard to de because it really depends on where the .org is getting the traffic. From direct links, there would be no spillover. However, from an offline marketing campaign, there would be.

Any thoughts?

If it's targeted to DNF members, the chance is 1 out of 10000+.
If it's targeted to kids, then may be 1 out of 10. Basically, it depends on the visitors' knowledge about the net. In other words, how stupid the visitors are.

There is no way to tell. I own a .com when a .com.au is the developed one. It gets about 50/month. The other domain probably gets 50,000/month. But that's just an estimate based on their alexa rank. Truth is, I don't know how many they get. And that's probably the biggest issue when trying to create some sort of rule.. no way to tell what the other site really has.

I have another one.... used to get 300-400/month, with a developed .net site active. But that site went offline. However the .org was bought by a major media outlet... but so far, nothing has been put up... My .com is down to 100/month. Only time will tell where it goes....
