EV1 and the Planet Announce Merger

Combined entity will further develop both the EV1 and The Planet brands supporting over 20,000 clients and 50,000 dedicated servers.

Everyones Internet (EV1) and The Planet, providers of dedicated hosting, announced that they have merged.

Clients of both EV1 and The Planet will continue to have the same products and services they have been receiving. The combined entity will further develop both the EV1 and The Planet brands, supporting over 20,000 clients and 50,000 dedicated servers. The merger between EV1 and The Planet follows controlling investments recently made in each by GI Partners, a private equity firm with deep experience in technology infrastructure, said the company.

"The merger is exciting news for all stakeholders," said Robert Marsh, Headsurfer and Founder of EV1. "It will be seamless from a client perspective and will result in a host of benefits for our clients."

"The opportunities created by this merger are extremely exciting, and we look forward to combining our resources for the benefit of our clients," commented Peter Pathos, Founder of The Planet.

"We are very pleased to have this opportunity to invest in further building upon the strong foundations at EV1 and The Planet," said Howard Park, Managing Director of GI Partners. "Our aim is to provide the additional access to financial and other resources that will enable the combined company to continue growing profitably while further improving service levels, expanding product offerings, and enhancing the total client experience."

Tough times ahead until this get straightened out. This is why you get servers through a reseller who provides the support for around the same price.

Hum... like who? However spotty the support, at least you can get The Planet on the phone if you have to at any hour 24/7.

One of the most shocking experience I encountered in theplanet is their 7 days cancellation request. I ordered a dedicated server, and it has about 10 days left until monthly renewal. I sent a dedicated server cancellation request to their support, and the first thing they ask is:

"Is there anything we can help you to stay with us?"

I replied "no", and they did not reply for 2 days, and I have 8 days left. My alarm clock ticks up. I browsed WHT and found out that there is a "cancellation request" form that I have to fill in and submit, and if I do not fill in that form within the first 23 days of the month, then my order will be automatically renewed for another month. Thank god I did a research. then immediately after about 30 minutes, the support rep replied and said:

"Your order has now been cancelled."

We will just have to wait this out and see if this will make things better or if it will somehow crash and maybe even burn.
