I know this sounds bad, but I thought this was a joke, meaning I thought he had already died.

I knew his son (and I think even a daughter) are now doing stunts and thought dad had passed away years ago.

There was a great doc made about him a few years ago, have it on my Tivo and somehow it never gets old.

One of my fave toys back in the 70's was the wind-up and go Evel Knievel - went for miles on the adverts; about 6 feet max in reality. I remember seeing one of his stunts on the news that went badly wrong - didn't think that a human could survive that sort of punishment.

A true 'star' and a complete nutter! Only 69?

A few days ago I saw one of those wind up toys, it was only £12 which is actually just £1 more than it was in the 70's.

Evel Knievel was a man of uncommon daredevil courage and determination. I think he enjoyed his life...painful as it was at times. He was quoted as saying "I made 60 million $$ and spent 61".

just occured to me that he may be one of the reasons many of us who watched him as kids are entrepreneurs today...risk takers in our own way.
