is he still a member of DNF? There was a link to DNF in the article with a username, selling some Canadian names.

I did a transaction with him a few years ago, all went well. I didn't know he was an NBA player at first, but suspected it after doing a search. He was playing for Minnesota at the time, I think.

Why did they use 'yeti.tv' as an example of a domain name in the article - lol.

One of the domain I sold him was in the article, chocolatecandy.ca

I love this paragraph:
It turns out, surprisingly, that Madsen is an active domain name speculator. That's the rather odd subculture of people who buy domain names like beer.com and yeti.tv, hoping to resell them down the road at awesome profit.

Yeti.tv? Huh? Eh, could have been worse, like StaplerStaplerStaplerStapler.com :D

Aren't all 3 parties involved with this (the owner of P2P.com, the person who stole it, and the previous owner) all DNF members? I know the thief is a (banned) member, what about the previous owner who had it stolen from him?

Hey, at least DNF gets some nice press. This was on the first page of Digg, so I'm pretty sure Adam saw a big spike in traffic today, and perhaps a few new members. With the current state of the economy, when anyone reads anything about making money online, they jump on the boat like anything.

I don't see the breakdown anymore but:

Members: Total 78,474

We'll see if it goes up.

Too bad I wasn't aware sooner. I'd have asked him for an autographed pic of Kobe

LA Times gave me a "site of the day" award back in 1999. It seems that the old school, knowledgeable reporters were laid off and substituted with underpaid rookies that dream of Information Superhighway.

AFAIK Madsen bought a name in good faith and was dragged into the case.
Problem is, poorly written reports like this contribute to spreading the idea that domain speculators are domains thieves.
