There are typically two limits when it comes to making automated whois requests. When making requests for the "full" whois, I think you will be banned if you make more than a few requests per second OR if you make more than 1000 requests per day. Does anyone have the precise limits for the new and improved "basic" whois?
Note that the basic whois request takes the following form:
Domain Name: DNFORUM.COM
Registrar: ENOM, INC.
Whois Server: whois.enom.com
Referral URL: http://www.enom.com
Name Server: DNS1.YOBAJUFA.COM
Name Server: DNS2.YOBAJUFA.COM
Status: REGISTRAR-LOCK
Updated Date: 11-apr-2003
Creation Date: 23-dec-2001
Expiration Date: 23-dec-2003
