Examples of high ranking .info domains please...

Hi

I'm looking for examples of high ranking .info domains in competitive niches.

There is a general consensus within many seo circles that .info domains are useless for ranking purposes.

I'm convinced that with enough links and seo effort you could/can rank a .info very very well.

Please post your examples and the keyword it ranks for.

No, these are not useless.

Especially when you create a site and watch it skyrocket in the rankings while the .com, .net, .org are parked pages.

Go to google and in the search bar enter this:

site:.info

Then you can see a bunch of .info sites.

i'm 20 pages into site:.info search and the only 2 sites on a keyword that should be competitive are:

austria - austria.info
vienna - wien.info

Not seen anything competitive at all like loans, insurance, hotels in blah blah.

Germany.info was #7 for "Germany" when I just did a Google search. And the only other Germany.[TLD] on the first results page was Germany.travel, at #2! (Proves the value of content over TLD.)

wein.info is number 2 out of 192,000,000 results for me for the search of vienna .

When you take a geo gem like that and have it outrank .com, .net, and .org...well, you have the makings of a success story.

Even Vienna.it is coming in at 35 and I have never seen an .it rank that high.

I am reading. The fact is those websites also have a stack of backlinks.

My point is I would love to see a .info that has been seo'd on a commercially competitive high $ phrase.

It could have amazing content... or like most websites just enough quality to satisfy google...

If ANY TLD is going to rank in a high $ value keyword its not going to do it on just content....

I would recommend reading up on Google's algorithm changes.

A good exercise for you is this...

Stay with vienna (which is a strong keyword and a geo gem).

Just type that word into google.

See how many pages you go through until you find any tld for Vienna.

Vienna dot com comes in at number 79. So that kind of shoots the theory in the high value keyword coming in first.

Google search for wien still has wien dot info at number two.

Why? Because of content, because of tagging, and because of those backlinks you mention.

I don't even see another gTLD in the top 100.


Wien dot info looks like a hell of a dominant player if it shows up for number 2 for both Wien and Vienna.

Quite a bargain for the owner. I can not imagine what the owner of the .com and .net want for their Wien or Vienna.

The factors involved in getting a .info to rank in Google are almost certainly the same as for other gTLDs. Google representatives have said several times they do not currently discriminate by gTLD. When you think about it with all their PhD's, it would be crazy to brand/associate all .info's as worse or all .info's as better than some other gTLD.

Incredible. Both of your number 2's rank number 1 for me.

Knowing what prime Geo's go for, it looks like the .info is an extreme bargain...especially if the big spenders are parking their .com and .net.

Time to make those domains work for you...make sites.

I'll just add that the domain shouldn't really matter with the right links, brand power, etc.. Any big authoritive site should be able to redirect to a .info and maintain their placement considering their redirecting their brand power and inbound links... The hard part is building a real authoritive domain, regardless of the letters in it. There is a point to all great sites where the actual domain begins to matter less... The great sites don't need names,, it's the week ones which lack genuine purpose that ride the coattails of the keywords in the domain. But with recent Google changes, that shortcut is getting less useful. IMO. A solid .info should be fine for seo, with the right owner and effort ofcource, it's just the branding you loose not having the .com.

Was about to show you the Spain.info site but looks like someone beat me to it.

For the most part, the people saying you can not rank .info are the same folks who can't rank .com ie. I wouldn't be listening to them.

Sure you will lose some type-in traffic to the .com but if you are doing a good job of SEO you will be ranking #1 for your brand, so I don't think its a huge drawback.

prchecker.info ranks for a number of Pagerank related terms, it has for many years!

Not in any SEO circles with people who actually know what they're talking about. You can rank with any extension just fine. One of the major shopping terms I'm targetting in the first 4 pages has:

.com
.net
.org
.biz
.tv
.fm
.ws
.asia
.as
.ch
etc.

And I'm searching from Florida. SE's care more about the content, keywords, links in etc. than an extension.
