okay,

i've seen this happen twice recently, and i'm not saying that anyone is necessarily doing it purposefully, but if i see it again from now on i'm gonna step into your sales thread to call you out. its simply not fair as you may be giving noobs the wrong impression about what a domain may or may not be worth, and i dont want to see a noob making buy decisions based on bogus valuations

two examples of how the valuation is radically different depending on whether you capitalize the first letters of each word or not

both .com

pinkdigitalcamera
http://estibot.com/results.php?domain=pinkdigitalcamera.com
appraisal = $28,000

PinkDigitalCamera
http://estibot.com/results.php?domain=PinkDigitalCamera.com
appraisal = $3,900

donttreadonme
http://estibot.com/results.php?domain=donttreadonme.com
appraisal = $23,000

DontTreadOnMe
http://estibot.com/results.php?domain=DontTreadOnMe.com
appraisal = $2,200

as you can see it makes a difference whether you cap the first letters or not. if you did not know, now you do. no apologies needed. if you did know this and purposefully chose to ignore the lower number estimation in favor of the inflated one, then tisk tisk i say. you know who you are :uhoh:

Why would the valuation be higher if the words aren't capitalized?

Only reason I can think of is they do not have or use a word parser to seperate the words. If correct, that is really odd since word parsing technology has been around for about a decade already.

Something that Sedo needs to adopt in a long overdue change to their system - the ability for the domain owner to set the Capitalization of necessary word breaks.

What's the big deal? It's not like when you capitalize it gives you a higher value.

Either way if someone is new and making decisions on estibot that is their problem.

Everyone learns and should do their own research.

Well, I don't think it's OK to do that. That estibot evaluation shouldn't be taken into consideration and if few sellers/buyers are using it, it's their problem not yours. They can capitalize what they want in their names... I rarely use to quote estibot evaluations in my sales threads, but that's my opinion.

What I do not like, and I think it's *really* unfair and some noobs get burnt, are the faked stats.

A good idea would be to disallow Estibot evaluations in the sales threads :)

Just looking at this from a consumer point of view. Makes reading and comprehension so much easier.

It may not change a thing except for how the site's URL makes sense to the viewer

I don't understand what is dishonest about the valuation.

If you capitalize letters it gives you a LOWER amount. when people type in appraisals they don't capitalize anything?

so i don't understand your point.

BTW it doesn't matter where the appraisal is from...that's all it is an appraisal based on an opinion. You don't have to be a genius to figure that out. There is nothing misleading about it.

its pretty simple.

it says explicitly right below the 'enter domain' search box

For best results, capitalize the keywords For instance: ProfitCash.com

the difficult thing is to assume anyone using it to evaluate their domain name for posting in a sale thread is not aware of the difference ..

so when someone advertises the name as DomainName.com for sale and then posts the valuation based on the lower case and not the uppercase domain as advertised, what is the intent there?

its misleading.

what is so hard to understand?

its the intent. i question, what is the intent?

if you are aware of something that may affect the value of something you are selling and you knowingly choose not to disclose that info to potential buyers, ... I mean, isn't that why lemon laws exist?

i'm not making an excuse for buyers not to do due diligence. but some are new and maybe dont know the domain game yet. like i said, i'm just good lookin' out, man :cool::cool:

That's great and all....but are these people missing this part as well ?

IMPORTANT: The purpose of Estibot.com is to give you keyword data and information about your domain. The dollar valuation is not to be taken literally - it may change, and it is only a quick-look measure of the keyword metrics.

Do not make a purchase or sale decision based on this appraisal

Like i said...if this is an issue based on stupidity that is their problem not yours.

Too late for many, I believe. Just had a thread here where someone wanted an appraisal after they purchased a domain based on a $23K estibot appraisal.

It's a shame that can people can be easily misled but it happens in everything.

That's why you gotta do your research before investing in anything.
