I would have to agree with 'bensd'

Having been in the search engine market myself and watching companies such as Microsoft constantly change the name of theirs in order to succeed, I think your best bet would be to have a 'targeted' search engine for a certain service/product. General Web Search is defiantly not the way forward for anyone with a bank balance of less than a billion dollars.

Your on the right track as far as design is concerned.

Ah yes...it's a dream of mine though :p.
As far as the search engine script goes It is pretty good so far. I just need to improve the crawler to crawl faster (or I'll be 100 years old when its done).
Yes running a search engine requires alot of money (microsoft invested 200 million in bing.com just to advertise not to mention the new datacenters it setup).

But so far I'll try to see if I'll succeed. Right now I have one managed dedicated with mighty power (not that much though) but so far the site is fast.
