I gave in my notice to my employer today, over 2 years of working in construction, physically wrecking my body, its over! My last day at work is friday, then its all web work for me, 6 months ago I told myself I would earn a living off the internet, here I am :)

Anyone else done the same recently? How have you found it? What are you doing about your tax payments? declaring the small amount you have earned in the past or starting fresh? What do you reccomend I keep records of? Eg can I claim for domains? hosting? purchasing links? broadband? marketing? computer hardware and software? mobile phones?

Hosting, broadband, a portion of your mortgage and bills, marketing, hardware, software, mobile phones, any losses, travel, food, on and on.

I'd recommend talking to an accountant or tax professional as to what and how much you can write off.

I assume you already filed for a corporation or llc in your state to register your business?

Oh and congrats :)

Thanks for the help :)
I havent registered yet as I dont officially leave my job until friday, im going to start things saturday, just registering as self employed will do I think, since the majority of my business will not be sales but rather ad revenue. I dont think its worth registering as offshore until im earning enough to be too worried about paying the tax.

What about time management? any advice? I know I should stick to a schedule but I cant, Id be tempted to leave working for a day or two a week and go enjoy myself with my earnings, im sure everyone has been tempted in this situation, any advice?

Since you are not fully detached with your situation. Why not do your 8-5 job schedule as a freelance?

Gongratz, I would love someday to be able to work for myself but the hardest part will be insurance (my wife has medical problems).
