Firefox takes Europe.

The Mozilla Firefox browser has achieved a market share of more than 20 percent in Europe, according to the latest figures released by French Web metrics firm XiTi.

XiTi, which based its figures on a sample of 32.5 million Web site visits that took place on Jan. 8, said Finland has the highest proportion of Firefox users, followed by Slovenia and Germany. It found that the open-source browser is used by 38, 36 and 30 percent of users in these countries, respectively.

The United Kingdom has one of the lowest proportions of Firefox users in Europe, accounting for only 11 percent of Web site visits there.

Interesting about the UK statistics being so low compared to everyone elses. I would assume those numbers wont hold long as Dell has began shipping all their computers with Firefox.

Microsoft can say all they want that they are number one in the browser war, but can't rest long on those laurels. Firefox is screaming hot right now, and with very little word from the MS camp about IE7, looks like Firefox are poised to grab even an even larger share of the market.

Im a firefox user, A lot of computer beginners too are realising they can enjoy a better surfing experience by switchning over and have done so, End of the year and I estimate firefox having something like 50%

When IE7 comes out, the firefox hype will drop hard compared to its current peak. IE7 is coming back stronger with tabs and I bet an equal or slight different approach at blocking popups and all that other dirty. The only thing I see firefox really having advantage over is in css processing, and the extentions. In conclusion they should have something good because they did learn from this large hit by firefox... I hope...

The mozilla team is probably thinking about IE7. I wouldn't be suprised if they are planning things for firefox to help keep new people downloading it after IE7 is released. I think the customizability (extensions and skins) for firefox is what will keep people with firefox. I have quite a few extensions right now for FF that I don't think I could really do without if I switched to IE7. I'm not sure does IE7 have plans to add, or does it already have, extension support?

If Microsoft support extensions in IE it will still suck - People develop free extensions for firefox as its open source - IE is closed souce and you are limited to what microsoft allow you to do - Lots of people dislike microsoft therefore will exploit the new IE and Operating system and users will be patching every other day.
