Hello guys,

Never knew this section exist here lol

Wanted to know your opinions about this domain - FlyingDutchman.com

Just checked Google results and it's on the second position - on 1-st is Wikipedia :)

I have only simple landing page, put there around a half year ago. It get's some traffic.

I even won the Google battle with FlyingDutchmen dot com - popular seed shop :)

What do you think about the value, guys?

Thanks, Nick

I like it. It is a pretty famous literary feature. Supposed ghost ship.

What can you do with it? Well, I did see a ton of diners and eateries with that name looking on google.

Very difficult to appraise. It has quite a history, is a recognizable name, a historical name in literature. All of that is going to add significant value.

How long have you owned this and have you had offers?

Thanks for the feedback Gerry.
I own it around 2 + years. Yes there were some offers but mainly from domainers. Also got inquires but my price expectations were really high, cause I remember the MonaLisa.com sale :) I know my name is not Mona Lisa but for me they have something similar.
Yes I also noticed that this name is popular among different restaurants and bars.

Naturally, domainers are going to low ball you. You are right, it is not Mona Lisa but it certainly has quite a story and a significant history to it. I think there has been an opera or play by that name (maybe even a movie), most likely the model for some of the characters and props in Pirates of the Caribbean, and I think a cigar brand (or perhaps that was just the dutchmen.

It is a very recognizable name. Good luck with this.

I can only assume you're looking for a number. I'd appraise this at low $xx,xxx.

The page rank is meaningful, but keep in mind that flyingdutchmEN is right up there on the first page as well.

The literary reference has value, I don't doubt it for a second.

Hold onto it. Wait out the right offer. Don't let this one go cheap, my friend :)

Well Dutchmen was just an example, plus it fits their business - seeds make dutchmen flying :) It just was always on a first page.
Funny thing that sometimes I got an inquries from in sort of : "Do you ship to US?" :) People are mistaken.
There are also many other "competitors"

I'd say a realistic end user value would be mid $x,xxx.

Five figures would be quite a reach.

Exact global searches per month for Mona Lisa: 368,000 for Flying Dutchman: 27,100
Add in the fact that the name recognition for Mona Lisa is global, and (at least for me) if not for Disney's Pirates of the Carribean movies I would have never heard of Flying Dutchman before.
I think mid four figures is accurate.

Thanks untitled and barrysanders! :)
Well, agree the search volume is different, but I was talking about the brandability. Mona Lisa have a less opportunites to be branded IMO
It's rather must be art related. Ok it could be a restaurant too, or hotel. But with FD you could start a hotel (btw my competitor in com.tr lol), a restaurant, something sea or air related - it has more opportunies IMO

Flying Dutchman is rather European legend and popular mostly in Europe. Well I never heard of Keira Knightley before the "Pirates" too :)
As for the offers: i got previosly a $10K offer from a domainer on it.

Spoken by a true Dutchman. And a KLM pilot!

A Living, Breathing Flying Dutchman.

I can feel your pain in not having this name...

Jeroen you're the KLM pilot? Wow! :)

There are two things that I don't like regarding KLM: 1. They were bought by Air France, and I guess because of it
2. The Flying Dutchman program was changed to Flying Blue :)
At least I think that Air France is guilty :)

How much traffic are you getting? Thinking monetize the site with Adsense or pub/eatery advertising if it is half decent.

A bummer indeed, I wasn't aware of it. 'The Flying Dutchman' used to be their slogan for decades.
