If you were going to have a domain name with a forum.com or forums.com ending which would you rather have?

Forum or Forums?

Forum. The dictionary definition is "A public meeting place for open discussion". Why would a single web site that is exactly what the definition says be pluralized?

I realize Forums gets used a lot too, usually with the logic that there are multiple threads on a site - but there is nothing in the definition that says an open discussion wouldn't cover multiple topics anyhow.

I'd rather have both, just to cover myself if the forums become popular.

I agree with Lats--get both if possble. If you must choose though--get the singular as everybody else suggested.

"Forum" singular is definitely best. Plus, the 'proper' plural of 'forum' is 'fora', from Latin (although a lot of people use 'forums' too).

As of this moment ( Close Estimate ):

There are 19,130 dot-com, net or orgs using the term 'forum'.

There are 3,088 dot-com, net or orgs using the term 'forums'.

Of the 16,042 that use the singular form, 13,640 end with the term 'forum' and 2,048 start with it.

Of the 3,088 that use the plural form, 2,709 end with the term 'forums' and 300 start with it.

6:1 in favor of the singular form... all opinions of course.

quack :D

vBulletins and the upcoming generation of bulletin board systems are constructed to contain several 'forums'. Rather then the old threaded systems where subjects are not split up in different sections. Nonetheless, I agree, 'Forum' is the better of the two. However in most cases, the term 'forums' can be just as appropriate.

Agree, too! :)
Look no further than THIS very site for your answer!
DNForum.com uses BOTH domains (type the plural into your browser) ... and has chosen "DNForum.com" (singular) as it's primary site/title.
I'm pretty sure THEY researched it thoroughly beforehand.
Good Luck.

Both are correct because Forum can mean the whole message board all together or Forums as a section of the Message Board like a catergoty is also a Forum.
