I heard about this on the local news last night:

Microsoft Elevate America

Microsoft is offering (in some states) thousands of FREE VOUCHERS for computer training.

These vouchers are on a first come/first served basis.

There are two different levels:
One for computer beginners
One for computer users.

The whole purpose of this to help in re-training and basic computer training skills.

THE SECOND PART OF THIS I JUST FOUND WITHIN THE LAST HOUR!

FREE Download Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 Beta

What's Included

Word

OneNote

InfoPath

PowerPoint

Access

SharePoint Workspace

Outlook

Publisher

Communicator

Will the beta license expire or be upgraded to non-beta?

Better read the fine print.

I have not read all of it yet.

It does recommend to use a secondary computer. And to remove previous installations of MS Office.

ALSO:

When you look at he link for states offering the training vouchers this map IS NOT UP TO DATE!

North Carolina is not included on the map but the Voucher Program here just opened yesterday.

Do a google search for your state

FREE MICROSOFT VOUCHERS, (your state)

This lead me to a link on a separate NC site.

Beta test is Beta test - I used to run a company which was MS Partner.
You may mess up with the real version that you have on your PC/Laptop when you install the Beta version.

I would not recommend to install for real use.

IMHO

I am going to wait also. I have two laptops out on loan and will wait to get them back. Both have Office 2003 installed. I have '07 on a couple of others but will keep that.

Or I may load up another PC that I have not used in a while. I just hate to have to dig out another keyboard and monitor.

I need to find a way to get these cheaper - it's a killer upgrading all the time. :)

bingo! Been doing it for years.

Recently down loaded the Open Office (OpenOffice.org) suite and looking forward to trying that. So far, very sweet suite and simple user interface.

I am all for breaking the ties to licensed software.

Just wanted to pass this free beta along as well as the Free Training Vouchers - that training can be very expensive.

So if you have MS Office, get some free training to go along with it.

Open Office is great - I usually throw that on computers that I refurbish.

As for the student discount - I'm not a student and last time i checked they tried to verify (nor do I know any students).

Places like Staples sells this off the rack and never asks for verification.

Sign up for these classes online and you may qualify.

There are so many online schools that offer free online classes.
Sign up to get the email address or go to Staples as Doc said.

The MicroSoft training classes that I posted will more than likely qualify a person. These are free vouchers handed out to states and community colleges. Traditionally these courses are taught in a physical classroom but these vouchers are good for the online classes through Microsoft. Same content and structure.
