Hey i am in the process of purchasing NNN.mobi domains as an investment idea and i was just wondering what others think the future will hold for them. Will we see a rise in value? What will we see them developed into?

Thanks

There is rumor that mtld.mobi is behind the big mobi sales that have recently taken place.This lead to high speculation by domain investors and thus lakhs of .mobi's were registered after that big sales and i think mtld hugely profited that might be the reason .mobi inflated in prices in such short span of time.

If this sales trend keep's on going in the near future,you will definatly see a hype in prices.

I think registrations are on 400,000 mark, not quite millions yet ;)
half the regges took place before the sales at traffic, that you refer too.
Rick Schwartz is a member on here. He bought flowers.mobi
I'll be honest i own no NNN.mobi, i wish i did :yes:
Although have always preferred words over numbers in domaining terms.
Go generic in any extension & you won't go far wrong

I agree when you say that you prefer letters of numbers although as these will be used for mobile phones i think number domains will have a lot more use then with other extensions, thats why i have decided to invest in them. Currently i have bought 5 but i hope to get more soon.

Thanks

I agree, My largest (and only) actual purchase of .mobi (as opposed to registration) is an NNN.mobi- they are the way forward IMHO, appealing to the Asian and European Markets, where 3G is most widespread and progressive mobile technology is further implimented than in the US etc. Also, keyboards on mobiles are always going to have difficulties with the alphabet, but they'll sure as hell always have numbers...

If the NNN correspond to a three letter word (each number on a telephone touch pad represents a letter with the exception of 1 and 0) then I think there is STRONG potential for it.

427=GAS
328=EAT
238=BET

If you tell me to dial GAS, EAT, or BET...I have to hunt and peck. If you tell me to dial 427, or 328, or 238...I'm there!

Same is true with NNNN.

So its time to get creative!

The only one I like with 0 is 007 but if the first number you hit is 0, will that get you an operator?

I have a list of all available NNNN mobi posted at www.whi.ms. Also, all 3 character is posted there as well. All NNN, LLL, L-L, N-N are taken for the 3 character.

By the way, www.whi.ms is free to use and abuse. Will try to update but some programs take quite some time to run.

That is my opinion, but who the heck am I to say what's what.

Also, keyboards on mobiles are always going to have difficulties with the alphabet, but they'll sure as hell always have numbers...
Agree, unless everything becomes voice activated (technology already exists) but still applicable for numbers.

Saying 4-2-3 is unmistakeable even to a computer chip. Saying GAS could be muffled or misinterpreted as ASS. Instead of finding all the gas stations, you end up with all the brothels and street corner names showing up, which may or may not be a bad thing...depending if the wife and kids are with you...you want to make sure it was an honest mistake...also make sure it is not a police sting...also, look for cameras...and look for an adams apple...oh, and don't forget the facial stubble, a dead giveaway...yea, if the bulge is bigger than years keep moving on (another dead giveaway)...only carry cash, they are not set up for PayPal yet. Not that I have any experience in any of this. Just watch COPS alot.

Come on, I don't even own a cell phone. Really...

Whenever i use my wap (Which is quite often to check my emails) My wap browser automatically reverts to T9 spell prediction so if i were to use numbers i would have to find out how to change it into numerical mode, so as you can understand i'm not too hot on nnn.mobi's although just to test the market i bought two nnnn.mobi's that are quite easy to remember 1221.mobi 6996.mobi!!! What does everyone elses phones revert to when they use wap???

Circa1850, I tend to disagree, I do not place value on NNN's that 'spell words'- if people were going to type 'bet' or 'eat' etc, I think they would just type that in, I think the whole number=letter thing is a bit of a fad and gimmicky, and I don't think it will last through the evolution of mobile phones. I think mobiles will just have a numerical mode and an alphabet mode, like they do now, although I hope this will improve. In all honesty, I also can't see voice activation becoming a big deal- the technology has been around for a while now, and it is so flawed- it never works in noisy environments, and believe me, when it 'mis-hears' you and makes an embarrassing error (Call's 'dumb blonde, instead of mum etc etc) people will give up on it. I don't think it is technology that will be ever supercede having a numeric keypad TBH.
I think the main perk is gthat numbers are internationally recognised- the asian market is already used to 163.com etc and most cultures are familiar with our numbers. There will be no IDN's etc on a mobile device in the near future...

Doesn't the T9 spell out several words and you still have to scroll to find the correct one? Not too savvy on this but I have seen the format.

Hi Laird,

i agree, it is auto for letters on my razr.
i just think NNN is easy to remember. as a campaign a firm may just say go to 555.mobi for example on their ad. impossible to forget
i have 99% words & still dig them more

Hi Gingeman,
i agree with almost everything you say.it's how i see it. it has nothing to do with bets meaning 3453 or whatever it is. it is just that 3 nice numbers are 3 nice numbers & asian markets love. & asian markets are bloody massive!
cheers

Yes, perhaps gimmicky, but all technology at present is somewhat gimmicky and faddish until the next thing comes along. But we obviously agree that the NNN.mobi does have value and potential as well as a place in the market. I think perhaps more so than another other extension.

The GAS, BET, EAT were just examples of how numbers could possibly equate to words. The point I was trying to make is it is much easier to just put in the number than to scroll for a letter. And if a number happens to equate to a word, it may make that number more desireable, marketable, and valuable.

I've played around with the T9 format and sometimes it will give you five words to choose from. Can not see the benefit if you type in a number and it gives you five words to select from and you still have to scroll through the list to find the right word. Just give me the number, is what I am implying. Unless you have a keyboard enhanced phone or pda and you do what you want to do.

asian markets are bloody massive!
Just read a report yesterday that China will be largest internet user by 2009. I wonder how much the firm that did this study got paid to state the obvious? :approve:

I misunderstood your emphasis, this makes much more sense and I agree wholeheartedly. :) I believe numbers are more relevant to the .mobi extension than to any other.

For a blackberry and certain HTC device owner that have QWERTY keyboards you simply can't 427 for GAS and all that stuff. Heck I cant' even call 1-800-Citibank
I don't have one so I am unfamiliar with that system. Sorry, mine is about 1 year old and so it's ANCIENT.

The way I envision this whole system to work is GPS enabled devices. No matter where you are, your needs will be met...by entering numbers or words.

You need an ATM? Petro? Food? The results will be relevant to your current location, regardless of where you are. Real time results to your exact location. True mobility on a true mobile device. Hand held, of course.

To be quite honest, I have not studied the subject in depth and I may just be repeating what is already known. If I am, then sorry. But how else would this system work to be effective globally?

What does that mean? It means the cellular phone industry and PDA, blackberry, Pearl or whatever we are using today will be outdated and outmoded in no time if you do not have a GPS enabled handheld device.

Sure, many sites are already up and running on mobi. But it is still rather limited...msn.mobi...nba.mobi...gives you information that they publish but doesn't tell me anything about where I am at or where I can find this and that.

If someone can put me onto a legit site to futher study I would be appreciative. Getting bits and pieces here and there on this site, that site...not helpful in the long run.
