Similar to names like "GameSpy.com", the name also connotes a website that allows visitors to "spy-out" new gadgets on the market. Also brings to mind the popular UK-based "TheGadgetShop.com".

There is the rise in the popularity of online "gadget" stores, especially those selling merchandise out of the Japanese marketplace into markets, like the United States (where "cheap" often sets the status-quo, limiting choices for avid and profligate fans).
Recently Forbes noted that stock of gadget exporters on Tokyo's Nikkei were recently pounded by fears that U.S. consumers were losing their apetite for gadgets, but in spite of that, gadgets are still huge business. For kids alone, there has been a marked rise in the US of entertainment properties targeted at gadget fans (SpyKids 2, Disney's Kimpossible, Totally Spies)
