A lot people posted in many forums that I was stupid selling this domain for "only" $ 33,000. In the following post I will explain why I am happy with the sale:

“I really hope the buyer of GAMBLE.mobi will sell this domain for $ 200.000 in 2009; I won’t be jealous then.”

This is what I think at the moment.

You could say: “Why did you sell this wonderful name?” and “Why wouldn’t you be jealous then?”

Reason 1 – Overture results
Agent.mobi sold for $6,241 – OVT +1,000k (including all the “agent included” searches)
Students.mobi sold for $5,600 – OVT 400k (including “student included” searches)
Lenders.mobi sold for $5,200 – OVT 100k (including “mortgage lenders”)
Consultant.mobi sold for $3,650 – OVT 170k (including all “consultant included” searches)
Dealer.mobi sold for $3,050 – OVT +1,000k (including all “dealer included” searches)

These examples are all potential $ XXX,XXX.xx domains that have a great overture. Gamble only has an overture of 17,000 – including all the “gambling related” searches.

When above mentioned 5 examples were sold, I did not hear any domainer saying: “You are stupid that you sell at the moment…”.

Reason 2 – Cash for development and Quit my current job
I (or we – including my business partner) needed some money for
- the development of some dotmobi’s.
- to quit my job next month and concentrate 100% on development

Reason 3 – Traffic
I do not expect a lot of consumer traffic in the next 1 – 2 years on this domain.

Reason 4 – Main reason

“If dotmobi really succeeds, the rest of my portfolio will bring the gold.” (View my portfolio)

But if dotmobi fails, or will become an average TLD, I am out of my costs and have gained a healthy profit.

I sold 8 out of my 380 dotmobi’s for the total amount of almost $ 50,000!

I invested $ 18,500

I don’t think anyone imagined three months ago that it was possible to gain a profit of + $ 30,000, with selling a few “landrush” dotmobi’s in a couple of weeks…

This is huge. There is nothing else better than being your own boss. I always say, if you're working for someone else, you are making someone else rich. Congratulations!

really don't think you need to justify, but along the lines of justification .. gambling.mobi and gambler.mobi are stronger 'betting' related names imo, so i think you made with the sale.

Don't worry, you don't need to justify this sale to anyone but yourself. I could live with all the reasons given, like raising money for your other .mobi's, and thanks for sharing your portfolio!

I just read over the weekend that one of the LasVegas casinos, Harrahs or the Venetian, not sure which, is planning to allow people to gamble on their mobiles while on the property. Apparently Nevada legislation is going to change to allow casinos to do this. Imagine the implications. They would probably use something like harrahs.mobi though.

Thank you for the explanation. Its good to see your thoughts on the sale that I'm sure many were wondering about, includeing myself.

In the end you don't have to justify your sale, but it is appreciated to hear your point of view.

Good luck!

I dont think you need to justify your selling, I think it was a smart move to sell now, if at all, the buyer will have to justify his purchase when the .mobi hype turns south..I still think that without the great PR the .mobi guys in conenction with Traffic and so on did this domain would not have sold for more than $500..I think .mobi is garbarge and a couple of years from now it will show..if I am wrong I will admit it, but I doubt it...good PR terrible product..its not an invention, just a tld, whoever confuses the rise of mobile technology with a rondom tld that brings nothing new to the table will lose in the long run..take the money and run while you can...

I would think on the contrary. :)

Good sell, You can never go broke on your profits. Sometimes the agressive guy gets rich but sometimes he gets busted out. I worked for a boss once who had been both a multi-millionaire and bankrupt at least four times each in his life. I would prefer to stick in the middle and have little chance of being either.

Why you must explain that you sell for 33k?

Very nice sell...dont waste you time explaining others...there are always mediocre people complaining about almost everything

lol, why do you care.

I would be really happy if I can extract maximum information from him.

Most of the domainers arent as knowledgeable as you may be. :)

Everyone is here to learn.

Best time to be selling IMO – before all the hype dies down.

Good job :)

Nice post, not that you need to justify anything...

Basically you just showed how a smart domainer can make a nice profit by flipping certain domains that were a good investment. A lot of us are not really able to do this because we lack the resources (cash) or the balls

A lot of us holding out hope that some day some rich guy who wants a website will pay us millions for a domain we got for reg fee... Not a very good business model... But wise investments that are flipped for good profits now is a smart plan, regardless of what the future may hold for that particular domain...

380 .mobis registered ... $18,500

8 sold in 2 months ... $50,000

profit in 2 months ... @ $30,000

still owning 372 .mobi for 2 years with huge upside potential and anticipation... PRICELESS
