Here is the list of generic names lost in INDRP Dispute Decisions
jobs.in
web.in
business.in
internet.in
isp.in
computer.in
hotels.in

In most case for the generic names, the Complainant was Jagdish Purohit (Indiapress.org)
Aparently, he holds Trademark for "Jobs" and has applied for Service mark due to his usage of subdomain name Jobs.in.Indiapress.org

The entire list of domains lost in dispute can be seen here
http://www.inregistry.in/policies/dispute_resolution/dispute_decisions/
Most are genuine, but I do not agree with the resolution of generic domain names.

Can you say corrupt? You can't tell me that the arbitrator isn't in the pocket of the complainant.

Take a close look at the hotels.in case - the registrar DirectI (owned by Skenzo) are involved in this scandal.

"The complainant in this Arbitration proceeding is Direct Information Pvt Ltd Incorporated"

"Complainant owns a trademark on and is actively using the name "hotel" in India since year 2000"

"Complainant also runs websites by the name www.hotel.in and http://hotel.in.directi.com"

DirectI and Skenzo are obviously reverse hijackers - I'd avoid registering or parking your domains with them.

Wow, thanks for the info, seems Jagdish Purohit is well connected, basically makes the .in registry look like a shambles. The previous owner turned down some very big offers for jobs.in. I wonder if he is kicking himself now?

Btw, does anyone have a link to the trademarks Purohit registered?

These domains have a limited shelf life anyway. In five years time most domains in India will be Indic script, but nevertheless, it shows that need to be sure of the integrity of the local ccTLD registry before straying away from dot com. Fortunately, IDN enables you to have the best of both worlds, and SEO punch as well.

I will 100% for sure move out of directi as soon as my domains will be soon to expire.

Incredible.. were these lost because the owner didn't defend them properly, or it's just the INDRP Dispute Decisions that always favor the complainant?

most shocking.
this immediately stops me from buying any generic .in's
internet policies and fraud is still a new concept in India and people must be abusing the loopholes. no sense spending top $$$ on a .in only to later loose it.

Yeah that was my concern as well. I was going after a few generic .in's and now I'm not sure how safe it is.

Would appreciate any comments on this.

The simple answer to that is: each and all of them!

All services will have to be addressed to the user. Even America is going to have to relearn that lesson.
