It appears that ..through... multiple support emails that renewing,Changing the name, including just the middle initial, or company in the contact information will start the 60 day period.

response from godaddy support
Dear Jim,
Thank you for contacting customer service. Since the domain name was renewed, you would need to wait the 60 Day security period before it can be transferred successfully. Please let us know if we can help you in any other way.
Dear Jim,

Thank you for contacting customer support. Changing the name servers and phone number for the domain will not start the 60 days. Changing the name, including just the middle initial, or company in the contact information will start the 60 day period.
Please let us know if we can help you in any other way

Is GoDaddy.com morphing into a Register.com, or Network Solutions? This new "fine print" attitude worries me. :worried: Does eNom follow the same 60 day "hostage" practice?

just a question from someone who was alittle absent when this whole extremely bizarre and totally irrational new rule about the "transfer if not reponded to in 5 days" rule.

Have we been given ANY argument that even remotely supports this new rule, or are they just plain stupid?

Go to www.icann.org/transfers , or read their "backissues" and you'll see their
"reasons" for it.

This is reason enough to NEVER use Godaddy.

If you do lots of sales, especially flips it is indeed a huge negative and I would never use GD or WW if that was so with me. If you are not a big seller it's not such a great issue but still can be important if you renew and get an unexpected offer or need to transfer away soon after renewal, or if you change anything at all no matter how minor in the registrant field.

Another big issue I have with them is in the event a transfer fails (which is very common) you need to wait 30 days even if the transfer is hopeless and then only after 30 days call and ask for a refund of the transfer fee. If you fail to do that you will NOT get a refund, which I find amazing in that they keep your money anyway. I am sure many of us lose $ because of forgeting to do so or not being aware of this, I know I have for sure!

Old news, concerning the 60 day window. I have recently purchased 3 domains and they are with GD - will wait for 60 days before moving them out as well.

I've never had a failed transfer..though I haven't transferred many in.
I find that failed orders..names already regged but shows as available at godaddy... usually get refunded in short order... a few days.
But I'll keep a eye on that transfer issue. Thanks
