So I came across this name "SidebySideRefrigerators.com" at Godaddy and they said it is available to me for $1,100.00 and a recurring fee of just $8.95/yr. I have no interest in this name at all, but they now have a list of so called "Premium Names" that are available when you come across a similar name that is taken. Does this have something to do with Registerfly or am I missing something here?

As some have already mentioned this is an example of one of the Domain Distribution Network's (DDN) in-line registration partners.

Fabulous.com has launched its Domain Distribution Network (DDN) that allows access for domain portfolio owners to list their domains across multiple aftermarket domain sales platforms.

Some of these platforms include Registrars, Aftermarket Portals, WhoIs query websites, and Lead Generation Affiliates. In addition, Fabulous also enables domain owners the ability to have domain sale functionality embedded on their own parked domains with only a 3% (bank fees) transactional cost for successful domain sales.

The advantages of the Domain Distribution Network include:
• Dramatic increases in domain sale exposure through registrar registration processes
• Access to new Lead Generators
• Real time settlement “Instant Transfer Protocol” (60 second settlement)
• Use of domain classification, pricing tools and live customer support
• Centralized management of domain sales and traffic
• Discounted fees for sales generated by your own domains (3%)
• High commissions for generating leads as an Affiliate
• Fixed and/or Make Offer pricing

The framework of this program has been built around the ability to instantly transfer domains to the buyer. Therefore, the biggest barrier to entry is that your domains are registered with a registrar that has enabled the Instant Transfer Protocol.

Currently Fabulous.com is the only registrar that has this enabled, although both GoDaddy and Tucows will be accepting customers in the coming weeks. Also, we have indications that the majority of large registrars will rolling this out between now and October. As new registrars are certified we will make announcements to that effect.

We don’t recommend transferring your domains to any of the registrars already participating in the DDN, rather you should be talking to your current registrar and asking them when they will be implementing the DDN program.

So what's this going to cost you? The commission per sale is variable and ultimately specified by you. That being said, the higher the commission rate you offer, the increased visibility your domains will receive across our Distribution Network.

If anyone has any further questions, please let me know.

Cheers,

Mike

I guess I am a bit confused.

The domains I found like this appeared to be unregistered...so why the premium?

What were the names? Normally this system only shows registered names.

You need to contact a Fabulous sales representative, since at this point you can only list domains for sale that are registered via Fabulous. The background for this is that the current registrar needs to support "instant transfers" (to the buyer of the domain) in order to list domains in DDN.

Fabulous is working on bringing more registrars on board though, so with a little patience (and some pressure on your current registrar), you might be able to list the names soon.

Hope this helps,
/Frank

I just went back and looked at the names again at GoDaddy.

I must say, this feels a bit deceptive to me. I have purchased plenty of domains and if you are a new domainer (or end user), it would be hard to see that you are not buying an unused name and rather buying from someone trying to make a profit off of one in their portfolio.

In the GoDaddy system, it appears the name is unregistered....and markes it with a Price ($650) and "Premium Domain price"

When going to WhoIs it is registered to: Fabulous

I guess I would have hoped the system to be more pure....to be more direct that this is a resale and not an unregistered purchase. Even the description of a Premium Domain is vague at best and does not mention this is a resale.
