In what could prove to be a major competitive coup for GoDaddy, the company was awarded a patent for so-called domain privacy services on October 31, 2006. The patent, filed for in July 2003, lists GoDaddy CEO Bob Parsons along with Joshua Coffman and Barbara Rechterman as inventors. The title of the patent is “Systems and methods for domain name registration by proxy...”

I wonder why Duke always promotes DNJournal in the "Advertising" section and you always promote your site everywhere else.
was it that hard to post the news WITHOUT a link to your site?

Well, I suppose I could just post the Google News link like the other articles here. Personally I think Ron should post his news here as it gives people the opportunity to comment on it, and it is news. But if people don't want me to post here, I don't have to :)

google links are posted by a bot.
But if people don't want me to post here, I don't have to
:)
as I said, you can always post without a link to your website.
link to your site=advertising
as it gives people the opportunity to comment on it
that's true, but people can comment on this thread, can't they?
why should they go to your site?

You should try Digg.com

well, if nobody cares, let's all promote our sites everywhere on the forum.

oh, wait, the forum has some rules!

the bottom line is, professional people, like Duke, read the rules and respect them.Other people, don't.

I'm not promoting a service, a list of domains for sale, et all. I'm just linking to a news article. So I happen to run the site it's on. Big deal.

Anyway, enough bickering. If Adam doesn't want me to occasionally post such news links on the forum I'll gladly stop.

At any rate, what we're losing here is that GoDaddy's patent could be a big deal.

Yeah, I was trying to think bck to other services like this that existed before he "invented" it. In a Business 2.0 article he claims that he thought of the idea after a woman contact GoDaddy because she was being stalked through her web site.

I got a laugh when I read your email about patenting domain registration, but then I saw this:

United States Patent Application 20040199520
Kind Code A1
Ruiz, Tim ; et al. October 7, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Method for checking the availability of a domain name

Abstract
The present invention allows a Customer to register a domain name with an accredited Registry via an accredited Registrar's web site. Zone files from the Registries may be downloaded, optimized and stored in an internal database. As the Customer selects desired domain names, their availability may be determined by searching the internal database or, if needed, the authoritative Registry. The Customer enters the Customer's information on a registration application displayed as a single form on a single web page. The Customer's information may be saved in a login account for use as default Customer information at subsequent login sessions. The available domain name, Customer information and an associated status flag may be saved to an internal database. Software may be used to monitor the internal database and register all unregistered domain names in the internal database to a Registry's SRS database.
