I have caught lots of good names using Snaps and NW. Sometimes I have gone for better names (like those rating 8.5 on my personal 10 pt scale) and other times I go for lesser names (like 8.1, or even 8.0 if the time is running out). With GoDaddy, I have caught nothing. And, GoDaddy will not even tell me their success rate. I guess they are too embarrassed to reveal it.

Try GoDaddy Backorders only if you have money to burn.

Beat SN and NW on l-p.com today.

Yes, it does suck but I think thats mostly because the established name gave us too much in terms of expectations...

Some people Like them some People hate them. I have had 3 successes so far with them on mediocre names, that I think should sell for about $40-50. Not a lot of profit when your paying $19 for the backorder. But you can get them for $12 and some change.

Selling names for $40-$50 is not in my repertoire.

But you really miss the point anyway. Really weak names can be hand regged or you can get them for $8.95 via Namewinner. and Namewinner is less work than Godaddy.

so what? they still got a 3 letter.com. for 18.95 that's not bad. sure your odds are better with namewinner. just bid 5k on namewinner for any even mediocre .net name(since that's what even crappy names on namewinner go for) and yes your odds will be better obviously. Quit whining, it's only 18.95 out a few bucks so what? are you a bold hunter, or cheap regger?. Godaddy beats 8.95 namewinner usually anyway.

Whining? I am just trying to warn others from wasting their money. OK. Since this is a competitive business:

Everyone: please go spend $18/chance so that you can maybe grab names that are so good you might be able to get $50 for them.  :D

Has anyone tried their premium service yet? GoDaddy support says it has a much higher success rate than the standard service. It's $30 /mo. plus $7.95 per name. I called GoDaddy billing, screamed, yelled, cussed, and got a full refund for my unused standard backorders, then agreed to try the premium service for a month. Anyone else go there yet?

I went the other way. I screamed and yelled until I got my $29.95 back after I figured out their complicated programs.

It's under the Backorder Domains tab off the homepage. The offer to the far right "Investor's Edge" is, according to support, what most of us were expecting their regular backorder product to be.

"The regular backorder is a bully, but this program acts like a pit-bull to get a name."

Yea, it's stupid, but I'm going to try it for a month and see if it works on some mediocre names. If it does, I'm going to write to them and suggest they scrap their "regular" backorder product altogether, as it wreaks of a scam.

If it doesn't work, well then at least I'm only out $50 instead of $150.

I wonder if this is the program getting those GoDaddy catched like eho.net that people think the $18.95 program has been getting? If so the $18.95 program looks even worse than it already does.

At US$7.95 a shot *non*-refundable, that is going to make for pretty expensive domains.

Maybe they have a 2% chance of picking up a fairly highly contested name.

That means 50 x US$7.95 = $397.50 per successful catch, on average.

Am I right or am I right?

(or am I wrong?)

(Or will they soon realise that they aren't going to get very far with that model?)
