I bought a few .info names this past Sunday and everything seemed fine until I got an e-mail from GoDaddy today about an error that occured in the .info registry this weekend.

Here is what the e-mail said:

Dear Registrant:

Following this weekend's maintenance at the .INFO registry, an error in new code introduced to the registry afflicted a limited impact on the registry related to names in the Redemption Grace Period. The .INFO registry is functional however, and you are able to register new names normally.

A number of .INFO domains were released incorrectly. Our records indicate that you have registered one or more of these names.

If you have any questions or concerns please email or call support.
I talked to a guy at GoDaddy about it and he said that the domain I got was shown as being available when, in reality, it was already owned by someone else.

I was going to just blow it off, but then I noticed that the Whois for this particular site has it listed as being created today.

I admit I am relatively new to this domaining business, but I'm curious as to why it says the domain was created today. I'm guessing there's a legitimate reason for this and I'm hoping you more experienced people can point this out for me.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Seems like GD released them and someone regged them today. Maybe they were free for day or so ?.
I would be mad as hell if they did that to me and I would ask them how they are going
to deal with it. As important, were they regged at GoDaddy by this new registrant ??

exact situation with me, except the domain that was cancelled out of my list was registered by me 3 months prior and could not be refund/cancel requested. I contacted Godaddy and they were unsure as to how it happened - I called the person who had just aquired it as I recieved a cancellation email 1st then check and noticed it had just been regged again within seconds of that email - he did the right thing and pushed it into my godaddy account even though it had originally been regged at my wildwistdomains registrar - I dont know if he had any part in the domains cancellation - I changed all passwords again regardless - but even if he got into my account to initiate the cancellation...there were some better domains so I dont see the reasoning for that...

Hope these are both isolated incidents

Yeah, I'm kind of pissed, especially since it seemed to be one of the better ones I picked out. However, if it is a legitimate glitch and it truely wasn't available, then I guess I'll have to be fine with the loss. :undecided:

Well, that makes me feel a little better.

. . . not that I really could've done anything about in anyway. I was just more or less curious about the whole situation.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. :eek:k:

There is something very wrong at afilias... I am trying to figure it out.
I am seeing domains dropping caught and then they turn up at afilias.

GoDaddy 'sold' me 'Spectrum.com' a week back. It was listed as 'available' and I figured that there was always the micro-mini-tiny-very, very small-infinitesimal chance of an odd registry drop. Of course, the money was refunded in the end.

This has happened multiple times for me on several occasions with Godaddy and DomainsPricedRight (Godaddy).

It can be pretty frustrating, especially when you have already started developing and spending money around that name.
