A couple weeks back, I receive a phone call on my cell, which I use for my admin contact # on my domains. My daughter answers it and she's listening to the caller explain something standing there looking perplexed.

I ask her to hand the phone over to me and I listen as this individual explains to me that he's a rapper that had a few gold and platinum records back in the 90's and was wondering if I could possibly sell a particular domain, which is exactly his "stage name" that he went by.

I regged this name, not because of what his name was, but because it was also street slang for a particular drug though.

Anyway, I'm listening to him on the phone, thinking to myself, "this is some clown trying to scam me out of a name for cheap or free".

So I kindly ask him to email me at my admin email, with a picture of my email address, and some proof that he is, in fact the individual that he claims to be, and sure enough, he sends me a pic, with him holding his Gold record, and his CD, and my email address written on a piece of paper.

Now, of course, many people out there probably would have said, "you can have the domain, for $10,000" just because of who he was, but I figured, hey he was civil about his request and so I just handed the name over to him, and as a matter of fact, he asked me to help him develop and promote his site.

We ended up talking on the phone awhile, and found out he had spent some time in Iraq, and he was telling me he was making a comeback so we kind of connected there as I'm leaving for Iraq in a couple of weeks.

So yeah, the moral of the story is, money isn't everything.

See what being civil can acheive. I'm sure if the guy came on strong making stupid demands and all, he wouldn't have got the same outcome.

Good on you DD, and take care in Iraq!

Nice way of verification. :eek:k:

And yeah, I always believe in good karma, it will come back later on who knows, a contact like that could open you up to a whole new level of clients and/or friends (or just opportunities).

That is a nice thing to do for someone... A lot of people still do not truly understand how valuable a good website on a good domain can be. This may go a long way to helping this guys career, and you may end up with a really good contact in an industry that makes tons of $$ and has a strong web presence. So you did something nice and it may turn out to be a very wise business decision.
