Good mailing list service?

Looking for a good mailin glist service which won't break the bank. Would you guys recommend running a script on a server or hiring a third party and paying them per month etc.?

Need some good suggestions, thanks!

I know of www.constantcontact.com - but exploring my other options.

They got free opt-in email list, but it seems no real reason to go with emails. As most spam, and unless they sign up for your emails at your site.

Most people see it as spam, and will not even look at it before delete them. But then again, there may be people that like reading stuff like that.

I would suggest running a script to do it yourself. I am sure their are a lot of open source and free scripts like this. Do a search on a major script site, like hotscripts.com
