What does everybody think about this? The shares have more than tripled since Google went public.

Current levels are unsustainable and stock WILL correct. The only question is: when...
I will initiate my short-position one day after the news breaks that GOOG will be included in S&P500.
Due to my personal money management-rules, I will not sell short the stock, but use options in order to limit my exposure.

I've seen similiar price-action in stocks like BRCM, BRCD, JNPR, CIEN, PMCS,... during the 2000-frenzy.

Google is a fantastic company, but it's share price is WAY overstretched: excitement always leads to tears.

Money during booms is always first made by the public on paper. And mostly, it remains on paper...

Currently at $308, I thought it would stop growing at around $290-$300 but who knows. I'd hate to see it crash tomorrow.

Pure speculation but going on past market trends I would say it can go higher. However at the slightest bump at Google this stock will drop 25% in a couple days. It's a long term hold but very scary to buy in at these levels.

The current market cap is $86 Billion. P/E is 121 that's rather high. Truthfully I think Google will one day be a 200 or 300 Billion company. It shows good aggresiveness yet doesn't make wide changes to it's core business. They have done a good job as a business even though I think their result pages are sucking more and more. As a business Google is one of the best out there.

Today it's up another 1.5%.

Google will continue to go higher as long as buyers are more agressive than sellers. It will go lower whenever sellers are more agressive than buyers :)

There is heavy speculation that it will continue to rise.

Do you think it's a good idea to buy in now? I'm afraid that it's too risky...

It's speculated to continue to rise. It is still a good time to buy.

I wouldn't risk buying now, that price is WAY sky high. I don't trust it to rise as much as it has already, but if you like to risk big money then go for it.

now would be a good time to sell, a good time to buy was when it went public and stocks were low. I would strongly recommend against buying now, because stocks will either not move or go down, likely hood of stocks rising higher are close to none.

If you want to buy in Google stocks, wait a while for stocks to go down maybe to 290 then invest. Also when google launches its new payment gateway stocks are gonna rise, so investing a few weeks before launch is a good idea.

I thought buying it at $200 was risky...

The difference between Google and many of the companies back in 2000 is that Google is actually making money. Most of the problems in 2000 occured when tons of money was pumped into companies which weren't making money and didn't even have an idea about how they were eventually going to start making a profit.

lol. i got it for $147 shortly after the release and sold it immediatley thinking i got ripped off.

google will be crushed by microsoft. to anyone who has watched the preview of their new adcenter (same as googles adwords) being tested you'll see what i'm talking about. i've been using adwords and overture for a long time and feature wise adcenter will blow them all away.

their search will be integrated into every possible place in the next windows release.

microsoft is known to copy code, and if you do a little bit of homework you'll see that many msn.com searches on the new engine yield similar if not exact results as google.

just my 2 cents. stock will stabilize...

Grave digger alert! lol

Price now 633.63, so if somone would have bought at 300, this would be over 1000% increase.
