Google CEO bullish on mobile Web advertising

DAVOS, Switzerland (Reuters) - The arrival of a truly mobile Web, offering a new generation of location-based advertising, is set to unleash a "huge revolution", Google Inc Chief Executive Eric Schmidt said on Friday.

"It's the recreation of the Internet, it's the recreation of the PC (personal computer) story and it is before us -- and it is very likely it will happen in the next year," he told a panel at the World Economic Forum.

I guess if he didn't mention Frank as a consultant then Google must have dissed him, eh?

Yeah, I know, I know...no mention of .mobi

HA! Wait. Not a word about .com neither.

WOOT. He dissed .com.

A truly mobile web is like saying someone invented the matrix and it will exist as a segregated area. In fact, only communist China is playing such games with the DNS. But wait: mobile web means technology moving forward, phones with full browsers transferring data at high speeds and using ample bandwidth. Which means....no need for .mobi to define that webspace, it's already there in several other older TLD's.

I totally agree that one major area for the future market growth of the internet is Local-Centric (as Marchex has termed it), however, as Acro has pointed out above this need not necessarily indicate that it is a .mobi market.

As Doc Com says no mention of either .mobi or .com, therefore the speach seems to have been about focusing marketing via technology rather than about a suffix.

Some people get bloated by their ego's. "recreation of the internet"?

If anyone understood the technology they just wouldn't say such things. The technology doesn't change because of .mobi or new location based ads.

.com doesn't need mentioning or introduction you can just say the web, the internet, the net, and everyone equates that to .com. He did mention "the internet" which means .com to the world.

I would rather watch the State of the Union address than to watch any comments made in this ridiculous thread.

They will both, the SOU address and this thread, be so predictable in content and substance and nothing more than wishful thinking.

Enjoy!

I can see parking sites having to develop a page for regular browsers and a page for mobile browsers. If your domain gets type in mobile visitors, you'll want to have something to give them. And I mean real mobile ads, not like the ones Sedo uses.

Im going to edit my post, as Im sure that anyone who makes a solid investment on something knows what they are doing or has more knowledge in that field as I do. I respect those that think outside the box. I dont have to be a mobi believer... But there are some out there that think ".info's have failed."

I agree with acroplex : mobile devices have to adjust to the web page and not the contrary.
