Are domain extensions relevant to their search results, ie; do they geographically elevate cctld results above others based on where the search was performed? If not, are there any plans to in the future?anyone got questions for Google?

Thanks!
that's good question
i've seen a few posts where members are telling each other that cctld's or non .com's don't do as well in the rankings.
another issue is the question of hyphens
does it have an effect on positioning, can the bots, crawlers "see" the domain name better, does it make a diff or not
or do bots see the domain at all?
perhaps we could ask about those things.
Thanks

If I could ask a question, it would be this:
BlueWidgets.com has 10,000+ original handwritten web pages about blue widgets, yet the site ranks below a three sentence Wikipedia article about how the ancient Mayans used "light green widgets" as toothpicks. There are tens of thousands of examples like this ranked all throughout Google. About.com is even more spammy and aggressive than Wikipedia, where in many cases their meta title is the only portion of the web page related to the search term. How on earth is this ranking system beneficial for web users, and when will some of these larger websites finally be penalized for blatantly exploiting Google's algorithm?
