from the article:
"Procter & Gamble Co., the consumer product company, is expected to register 500 dot-mobi sites for its trademark products, according to a person familiar with the matter."

from P&G:
"Metamucil® is a natural fiber laxative/fiber supplement, available in sugar or sugar-free powder, wafers and capsules."

my comment:
I understand having metamucil.com, but metamucil.mobi? Do people really need fiber information so quickly that they have to use their phones instead of finding the bottle and reading it or waiting until they get to a computer?

...........................
Quote WSJ:

Mobile Top Level Domain aims to change that in part by setting up a new domain name specifically for wireless Internet Web sites called dot-mobi. Just as dot-com is the domain name for many Web pages on the wired Internet, dot-mobi will become the suffix for Web pages that are formatted for cellphones and other wireless devices, the company says.
...........................

Surely you are still going to able to use the .com on the wireless internet and likewise surely you will be able to use .mobi on a wired internet.

Therefore what is the point?!

Please advise cos I don´t understand. Creature

edit:.................reading on I think I understand now thanks.

Most websites around today cannot be viewed on cell phones or are not properly formatted to display correctly on cell phones.

As per .mobi rules, any websites built on a .mobi address MUST be formatted for the cell phone world instead of just standard HTML. They want users to know that all .mobi's will work and look correct on a cell phone.

Smart comment, i didnt even think about it since i never used my cell to access the web

The only thing bugging me is what they call a "mad rush" lol Companies register their TMs so no one can steal it, they dont mention that fact lol Its a rush against cybersquatting.

I suppose it would just be nieve of me to think that the latest generations of pocket devices aren't capable of viewing the internet correctly...like my pocket pc which can play flash games, scan via my java applet print server etc...

Oh yer and the wonderful cybersquatting...niiice. Those damn squatters are everywhere...lol. It's a little frustrating when you go to a nice domain...and wait! You've just been redirected to Sedo. Nice. :p
