From: http://www.bestsyndication.com/?q=0...-in-works-cellphone-pda-apple-iphone-news.htm

"The Wall Street Journal reported that Google has been out shopping for prototypes of mobile phones. Google is supposed to have prototype phones that are in the works for possible future manufacturing on the mass scale."

My take: this is the third time in less than a year that SOLID big publications like WSJ are reporting on Google Phone (or gPhone.. who knows how they'll call it).

So I've invested in some 50 domain names today just in case. Managed to get some of the last gphone.* and googlephone.* domain names around, and quite a few other very well marketable ones (googlephonenews.com for example :p).

You might wanna think about it too...

Not yet actually, only some very good .com's are taken... Lots of .net's .biz, .mobi, .eu, .us, and other popular TLD's are still left for very nice SEO domains... check stuff like * accessories, ringtones, downloads, news, store, shop, buy, forum, etc... :)

And hrm, to be honest, my money is on gPhone. gphone as in gmail. but whatever it will be called in the end, a lot of people will call it "google phone" :)

Best,

Dennis

A prototype/mockup (unofficial rendering) of the Google phone along with some additional information can be found here:

http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/340/C13039/

I just puchased the Helio Ocean which beats the iPhone by a long shot...it's 3G, easy to use, half the price of the iPhone, $99 per month for unlimited everything (you can get 500 minutes per month and unlimited browsing, etc for $65), incredible call clarity, exceptionally fast loading websites in seconds where the iPhone has been reported to take minutes due to slower EDGE technology and not being 3G...and everything the iPhone isn't, should be, and wants to be.

http://www.helio.com/?#devices_ocean

Google I am sure is taking notes on everything out there, what works, what doesn't work, and probably owns a couple of hundred of everything to take them apart and test and see what makes them work.

My decision to go with the Helio Ocean was based on several factors.

1.) 30-day 100% money back no questions asked guarantee if order placed through website (very important...FYE stores and other retail outlets do not offer this).

2.) Too much negative press (speed, heat, slow, poor phone quality, and on and on) about the iPhone. I do believe the iPhone will be a stellar hit. By the way, production estimates have been cut more than half leading industry experts to believe that iPhone 2.0 is already to hit the market. Good news, but did not want to wait.

Here's a side-by-side comparison with the iPhone:

http://compare.helio.com/

3.) As if all the bells and whistles on the OCEAN were already included FREE OF CHARGE was not enough incentive, beginning August 1 they are offering unlimited usage and minutes for only $99 per month.

http://www.helio.com/page?p=offer_news&

4.) An 8.3 score from the editors and reviewers at CNET.net/ZDnet.com which over the years I have relied on to help in making decisions for all electronic gadgets from computers, laptops, phones, tv's, cameras, camcorders, etc.

http://reviews.cnet.com/cell-phones/helio-ocean/4505-6454_7-32390958.html?tag=prod.txt.1

I don't consider this an "iPhone killer" as some have dubbed it but I consider it the best choice for me at the moment. Here's a decent video and specs of the features:

http://blogs.zdnet.com/Berlind/?p=587

DISCLAIMER: I am not getting any referrals or bonuses for this post. I am simply relating my choice and my reasons for making the decision to go with the helio.

Nice read Doc. If Google plan to release an HTC device running WM5 as it appears to be in that article on mobilemag, they have no chance :) If Google are spending 100s of millions of bucks on this, it has to be based on a new OS, and it's my guess that it will be based on Linux, although that is also mentioned in that article. Nokia have experience of putting Unix on a comms device, in the 770 and 880 - all they need to do is add GSM radio and it's ready to go. Google and Microsoft WM would never work IMHO.

Based on my experience, any domains with the word "google" is a not worth to keep.

Wow, the default might be .com. Isn't that amazing? just like on your very own computer.

Type in cnn in the browser and where does it take you. Gee, the same with msn. There is this thing called default. And even Google...my oh my.

That is why it takes someone with half a brain to know if they want to go to Slickdeals.net they put in the extension .net, or NPR they may have to enter .org, and the IRS might be .gov. And if I want to view SDCA.mobi I might just have to put in .mobi. Such a difficult act to perform on a qwerty keyboard. I may have to get someone with a higher than 4th grade education to write the manual.

Keep practicing. One day you'll grasp the concept.

Amazing how an informative discussion regarding the potential release of a google phone compels some cranial rectal inversion gluteus maximus sphincter remarks from a predictable source. Google, Firefox, Mozilla and more mentioned in the article and in my comparison of the iPhone to he Helio Ocean. Not a single mention of .mobi.

So if you want a debate on that topic then go start a debate. Start your own thread, start your own off the cuff remarks about .mobi. You just continue to demonstrate how feeble minds think about feeble things. So give it your best shot seeing that you are so intent on getting me kicked off this forum.

Perhaps starting your own thread on a controversial topic will entitle you to wear the crown and title of Masterbater for a week or two. My apologies...that should have been MasterDebater.

Hell, I'll even stay out of your thread. Unless you want me to participate so you can get me kicked off the forum?

More importantly, I apologize to all the other members that were having a discussion over phones and technologies and such before the flame throwing started a few threads back.

Doc, in medical terms, the gluteus maximus is near the anal sphincter; as the superior "arse" muscle, but not one and the same. The phrase "cheek compression" coupled with "excretion" comes to mind as almost one and the same, but not quite.

My guess is that there will be no ".mobi" default.

True, but when one feels compelled to have an excretement manuever, one may feel the need to have the Gluteus Maximus aide in the squeezing (aka "cheek compression") and forcing of the solids from the anus portal. Kind of like Fat Bastard having the "turtle poking it's head out"...a painful experience at times, I am sure. Risk of such cheek compression and subsequent struggle may lead to a vagal maneuver decreasing one's heart rate, blood pressure, and flow to the brain causing a syncopial episode. Not at all uncommon to find people passed out on the crapper.

I would also venture to say there will be no .mobi default.

Well I thought about what name Google will choose and probably it is not
going to be gPhone.
All gphone ext are taken and after Apple iPhone , Google will think about something more creative.
Any suggestions here?

Tough call.

Apple was so well branded with iPod, iTunes, and so on that it only made sense from a branding and marketing point to go with the iPhone. What branding!

So it would be time to put the thinking caps on and try to figure out what and how Google would brand such a product.

And if that was not enough, Yahoo is heavily pursuing the same sector and market.

Are GoogleXXXXX.com worth anything? I thought trademarked names were a waste of time.
Naturally, any trademark name is risky but some take the risk when it comes to parking and typos generating revenue. Typically generic words are not so much an issue as are branded names like Google and Microsoft.

So, anytime you go after craftly created names that contain that brand and even typos, be prepared to face some legal mail down the road.

There was a consistent rumour that they might call it "Google Switch", but that was based on supposedly leaked online survey information which the company that supposedly conducted it refuses to take responsibility for. So hrmmm.... Not sure.

But here's some more FRESH news, folks: http://ia.rediff.com/money/2007/aug/24gphone.htm

"Sources close to the development said a simultaneous launch across the US and Europe is expected, and announcements would be sent to media firms in India and other parts of the world. US regulatory approval, which is expected soon, is the only hurdle that Google is waiting to cross, they added. Google plans to invest $7-8 billion for its global telephony foray."

It seems like an official announcement might be made by the end of the month... Even if not though.... All these rumours can't be a coincidence.... So once again I suggest everyone to look into this (if Gooogle is really about to invest 7-8 billion into this it will be a huge project... Quite possibly much bigger than iPhone, which brings me around 1.5k a month combined from different sites) ;)
