I have no doubt that Apple will do just fine, as will Google.
Yes, technology is part of the equation and Apple can find other suppliers.
But Apple makes a product that people want. Innovation, design, coolness, capabilities, ease of use, portability, and most of all design elements that are appealing to the consumer propels Apple above other manufacturers. That innovation team is still in place and will continue to make products that appeal to the consumer.
As for Google, up to now they have solely provided a service rather than a product. There is room for both to dominate the innovative arena.
For me, a mix of both is pretty sweet, provides me with different products for different needs, and offers a value in the forms of services, apps, and functionality.
That is why I have an iPod Touch, the Google Nexus Android phone, use iGoogle as my homepage on the PC, and have just ordered 2 Apple iPads.
