finally , it was dp that pissed me off the most, domains for sales with pr4,5 tag with prices like $50-$80 ( worthless domains ) and page rank was over rated within webmasters too.

Read the original post at the link I provided, really slow. Then read it again to comprehend. A third time might be necessary.

Executive summary: PR is not being dropped.

That entire post is one big assumption based on an employee quote that says nothing about them actually ending Pagerank or even implies anything about them ending Pagerank, simply that they don't want people to focus on it, because...newsflash: THEY DON'T WANT PEOPLE GAMING THEIR SEARCH ENGINE! While we're at it, flying cars will be the norm in 5 years and Obama will get impeached. Welcome to Web 2.0, where people just state ridiculous assumptions/opinions as fact and make it their headline to get viewers. Worked for him obviously as that story is everywhere.

I highly doubt Pagerank is going anywhere...

It's not going anywhere, at least not yet.

Google merely removed a small feature from webmaster tools showing pr distribution of their pages.

There are over 200 factors that determine where a site shows up in the SERPs.

I too find it weird why people seem to obsess over PR (especially since I've owned large PR0 sites - got PR taken off me for selling text link ads - which are top for competitive keywords; the PR really isn't too important), hence I'm happy enough with this change.

IMHO, Link selling is a big part of the reason people obsess over PR.
The higher the PR, the higher the link price, which in turn leads to the assumption that high PR means a more valuable website (and to a lesser extent, the SEO benefits that go with high PR).

Google removing PR distribution from WMT's for the reasons given in that thread is a joke. If they were serious, they would have gotten rid of the toolbar PR as well (or first).
Until they do, nothing will change.

Sharing my opinion :)

Cheers
James

Hi James,
Yes, I quite agree with you :) I mean, link selling on a popular site is a good thing since you're getting a link from a popular site, but going solely on the PR isn't wise.

I couldn't make sense of some of what he was saying. What does this mean?

I would love to say I won’t miss Pagerank but I’m certainly not going to lose any sleep over it are YOU?

Will he miss it or won't he? I think bloggers and webmasters should pay a lot more attention to content and make it as readable as possible to users. That might help with Google.

PR is constantly changing and will always be alive in some form or another... it's just another word for Googles overall score of a website.
