from where i am the google home search page has provided a very nice "spread the word about firefox" message

what would this cost, to advertise on the front page of google

i got to believe this is google telling mircrosoft, "you want to come after us, here's our answer."

the move by microsoft to attack the ppc industry, through google, in addition to inferring through their
"strider url tracer" software that google is profiting from the "domain typo business," appears to be no doubt upsetting some people.

amazingly it's gone - i guess that didn't last too long - just went back and checked, "firefox message is gone" - oh well

i wasn't seeing things after all -

It's now the - "Destroy IE Campaign" - google is paying $1 for each new firefox user you refer -

wow, what a great way to help the cause...!!! and get paid for it too...!!! this could be nice...!!!

really, i didn't know that

what was the last thing they did like this

i know it seems a little far-fetched in a way, kind of surprising they would
actually do something like this, but microsoft is trying to hurt the ppc industry,
it seems to me, so anything that might make them think about the extent
to which they push that could be helpful

hmm, How is MS hurting the PPC industry? from the typo squatting thing you mean? Again (as posted in the squatting thread), I think "you" misread the intention behind that.

Typo Squatting is/has been a very successful way for thieves to steal personal information from people. MS is just trying to protect it's customers. Sure, we, as domainers will feel a pinch... but I am confident that in the end (within 6 months of all this going mass market) our community will have an even better system.

Nature Abhores a vacuum after all :)

Just remember, Microsoft exists for it's customers, not domainers.

Perhaps Microsoft should focus on the stuff they are infamous for. When they get a IE 7.0 rolled out and working and have a delivery date for Vista, then perhaps it will be time to engage in these symantics.
