Many a times one would find more number of Overture hits than Google hits for an english phrase, and vice versa. Ideally one would expect similar kind of ranking/page views in Google and Overture.

Question is: which is more valuable:

1) high on google, low on overture, OR
2) high on overture and low on google?

Thanks

Words more popular at Overture than Google are exremely rare. In fact, during my zillions of suggestion tool searching I have never seen it happen.

The ratio could not be more 1-sided. Many times words will have say 50 Suggestion Tool returns but have 50,000 at Google, or zero vs thousands at Google.

In google, just use the search bar. For more than one word, enclose with ""

google (not google keyword search but google general search) returns the number of web pages indexed whereas overture suggestion tool returns the number of times a particular key word is searched. So there can be no direct correlation. Still, one would assume that those key words which have a high search rank in overture should typically proportionately have a very high number on google search for web pages. But that seems to be not the case. Quite a few key words show, lets say > 100000 searches on overture, and show hardly >1000 pages on google. And sometimes the case may be opposite.

Quite strange!!!

I don't recall seeing that happen. Perhaps it could occasionally happen with some single key words but with most words and phrases it is unlikely. Do you have any examples?

It's not all that rare to see overture numbers higher than google numbers for the same phrase.

Here's a few from just a couple minutes search

math homework help
ebay motors
world sex
love fuel

drbiohealth..the reason for the difference is when you are searching overture inventory you are seing resluts for the actual number of SEARCHS (the previous month)for that particular word/phrase..

when you searching google..you are seeing not how many searchs were done but how how many web pages appear with that word or phrase..

...

Alot of people who have been at this a long time STILL cant grasp the difference..

use oveture to see if their is a market for a keyword/phrase..

use Google to see how much COMPETITION (how many other web sites you have to compete with(for ranking) if you "use" that word phrase)

Good Luck..

drbiohealth,

Seems you've just found one of those rare words with more searchers than competitors.

Congratulations!

Google's Adwords select is an excellent tool for calibrating the pull of a keyword. I am currently benchmarking a couple of industry keywords, and the learnings have been excellent. Sure you pay for such an exercise, but if you're serious about understanding traffic for your specific areas of interest, Adwords is the best way to go, imo.

Exactly.
In other words, higher Overture than Google numbers= nice opportunity for a right web site.
